badlarry Posted July 21, 2004 Report Posted July 21, 2004 Hey guys, I need to know what people are running for gearing with similar set-ups. Mods go as follows: Mildly ported cylinders 20 cc domed vito's black hemi head .060 wiseco proloites TDR carbon fiber reeds w/ ported cages Toomey T-5's (jet hot coated w/ hush 2.5 kit) 4 degree timing key welded and trued hot rods crank ( stock size) 22" kenda Klaw XC's and 23 holeshot xct rear, front jetted w/ 300 mains, 30 pilots, fourth or fifth groove vito's needles, air screw 1 turn out (stock carbs) no lid, K&N w/ outerwear mixed at 40:1 or so (12 oz. oil to four gallons premium or ultra 94 if possible) I am wondering what sizes of sprockets and brands/ types people are using, and speeds expected. Mostly trails but w/ occaisional sixth gear logging roads and rail beds so keeping up w/ buddies on the two wheelers is not a problem, I want to be able to stay in front of them on the long straights. thanks much everyone Quote
SouthernBanshee Posted July 21, 2004 Report Posted July 21, 2004 with those mods and tires the stock gearing (14/41) should be fine but it wont hurt trying 14/40 or even 15/40 good luck Quote
sredish Posted July 21, 2004 Report Posted July 21, 2004 I run a 15/41 without porting and the only time I go down is when I'm at the dunes and I run a 15/40 there, so I always keep a front 15 tooth in. Makes it a lot more rideable and your not shifting constantly. I also still start in 2nd when I'm dragging, at the sand or dirt. Quote
streetshee Posted July 21, 2004 Report Posted July 21, 2004 (edited) im on 17/38 but with 225/40/10 rear tyres. ooohhh but now i realised this is for people with similar set ups,i wish mine was, sorry. Edited July 21, 2004 by streetshee Quote
