ravin Posted July 14, 2004 Report Posted July 14, 2004 (edited) 94 Banshee, Runs mint for 2 to 3 minutes until motor really heats up then pops & backfires. Both cylinders showing 90 psi. Carbs, airbox & reeds clean and no airleaks. Looks for suggestions what I might look at. Thanks to those who replied. I may be using a compression gauge that is out of wack due to it's age (40). I am at 700 elevation and jets have been set for that. The bike was running great and just started this suddenly. I don't want to think it is the stator but if it is I will have to start saving my pennies. Again thanks to all. Curt (Ravin is my dog). Edited July 15, 2004 by ravin Quote
J.J. Posted July 14, 2004 Report Posted July 14, 2004 Compression's a tad low. Backfiring normally indicates a lean condition, both sides backfiring? Let us know all your mods, elevation and carb settings. Looks like time for a fresh top end with those low compression numbers. Quote
kenr74 Posted July 14, 2004 Report Posted July 14, 2004 Check your waterpump. If you aren't moving liquid it will get hot fast. Quote
banshdog Posted July 14, 2004 Report Posted July 14, 2004 if you say it is backfiring, i would check jetting. Quote
SyNtAxx Posted July 14, 2004 Report Posted July 14, 2004 Hello, i had a similar situation. Turned out my stator was garbage. The epoxy on the the stator that holds the wires in place was cracked. Ran fine untill the motor warmed up and the epoxy expaned. That caused the wires to become loose, thus the shorting out and popping and missing. Worth a look... Compression is low also....how do you get it to run on 90psi ? Later, Nick Quote
