cdw Posted June 25, 2004 Report Posted June 25, 2004 I've got 20cc domes with a cool-head and have around 150psi. It runs great with 91 octane, it even runs fine on 89. I'm at about 500 feet elevation. I was thinking about going VP maybe 105. Would it be worth it and would I see a big power increase? Thanks Quote
banshee04le Posted June 25, 2004 Report Posted June 25, 2004 Not at all. If anything, there would be a slight decrease in power. For maximum power, you want to use the lowest octane rating that you can safely use. High octane fuel does not make more power. It simply resists predetonation longer than low octane fuels. A low octane fuel can ignite before the spark even arrives, if compression is high and combustion surfaces are hot. That is predetonation and will melt you motor down faster than anything. Again, race gas is not to make more power, it is just insurance against predet on high compression motors, or motors running NO2. Buying race gas is a waste of money if your motor doesn't need it. frocashmoney24 Posted June 25, 2004 Report Posted June 25, 2004 he nailed it, i'd stick with 93 if i was you Quote
MotulMonsta Posted June 25, 2004 Report Posted June 25, 2004 Well, also throw in the vairable that pump gas is made for a wide range of engines and engine loads. Race fuel on the other hand is more strictly formulated to suite a specific engine and it's needs. So if you built your motor to the fuel you wished to use..you'd make the most power. Quote
hamuel Posted June 26, 2004 Report Posted June 26, 2004 doesn't race gas create more carbon build up? Quote
FireHead Posted June 26, 2004 Report Posted June 26, 2004 Race gas does not produce more carbon build up if properly used. Proper application is mentioned earlier in this thread. Race gas will produce more carbon build up if your engine does not have compression or spark to light it off. Quote
