Mod Banshee Posted May 18, 2004 Report Posted May 18, 2004 I would say to put a New Top end in it. Quote
lian Posted May 18, 2004 Author Report Posted May 18, 2004 how do i do that and whats the price becouse im broke right now and just have enough to get the head milled but do i have to do anything to the bike before i take off the head or put the milled one on Quote
350duner Posted May 18, 2004 Report Posted May 18, 2004 You shouldn't need anything else, just a new head gasket. Make sure you drain the coolant at least enough so there won't be coolant in the head when you pull it off or you'll get coolant in the cylinders. How long has it been since you rebuilt the top end? Now would be a good time if it's due. Your compression will be lower than stock if it needs a bore and rings, hurting performance. Quote
frocashmoney24 Posted May 18, 2004 Report Posted May 18, 2004 just make sure you take and put the bolts on in the right order, and in the right pound incramints, clean off the gasket area, and put her back on Quote
2004LEBanshee Posted May 19, 2004 Report Posted May 19, 2004 Increase touque slowly. Go over a couple times. Quote
lian Posted May 19, 2004 Author Report Posted May 19, 2004 i took the head off and the head and pistons looked good the4 head looked really clean i think becouse of the ams oil and my father thinks i might have some coolant leaking what signs could you get from that and whats the max you can take off a head and what would you guys recomend Quote
2004LEBanshee Posted May 19, 2004 Report Posted May 19, 2004 .30 is max without getting the squish fixed. Quote
lian Posted May 19, 2004 Author Report Posted May 19, 2004 is it still reliable and will i notice big difrence when its milled and will i see it mostly in bottom end Quote
BansheeBoy17 Posted May 19, 2004 Report Posted May 19, 2004 ya you should notice a differince in power ! But like the others said - make sure you drain your coolant unless u want a big puddle of sticky green stuff on the floor By the way which ottawa are you in ? Illinois? Quote
2004LEBanshee Posted May 19, 2004 Report Posted May 19, 2004 yes if done right it is perfectly reliable same as stock. Mostly a low end difference. I loved it. A great cheap mod deffinetly do it. Quote
lian Posted May 19, 2004 Author Report Posted May 19, 2004 (edited) i live in canadas ottawa and i thought i drained most the coolant till i took the rad cap off and man did she come out fast and what should i pay to get it milled becouse i want to check around for prices and if i cant find anything then i probally ask boon to do it also i cant remeber but i read before when your bike gets a certian hp you should get the stock crank welded does anyone rember that Edited May 19, 2004 by lian Quote
2004LEBanshee Posted May 19, 2004 Report Posted May 19, 2004 (edited) I'm not positive what the price was to get it done I had boon do it. I think around $40. I've heard of people getting it at local shops for like $30. To me i wanted to know that it was going to be right and in good hands so It was worth it to send it and the flywheel to him. It was perfect got out and back in a week and couldn't see a machine line on it. If it wasn't for 30psi you couldnt tell it was touched. I mean how cheap do you want it to be. Is $5 or $10 gonna make or break your bank. No but a messed up head on your shee will. Edited May 19, 2004 by 2004LEBanshee Quote
mrman99 Posted May 19, 2004 Report Posted May 19, 2004 don't shave it .30 of an inch thats almost 1/3 of an inch. I've been noticing people giving advice on how much to remove off the head and giving the wrong info. You want to remove no more then .030 of an inch. .03 of an inch is about 1/32 of an inch or about the thickness of 10 sheets of printer paper. Quote
