banshee370 Posted May 7, 2004 Report Posted May 7, 2004 TPS is a throttle position sensor. I dont know if you can test them w. a meter or not.. Do you have a tech manual? A tps should be fairly cheap for that vehicle.... EGR could also screw w/ your idle.... Quote

SHEEDAISY Posted May 7, 2004 Report Posted May 7, 2004 tps(throtal position sensor)is on top of the throtal body there the butterfly thing is . to check it turn the keyin the on position but engine off . with a digital volt meter check the green wire with the positive and black wire in the negitive one . it should be around .997-.999 . the iac (idle air control) is on the side on the egr plate behind the throtal body .take it off and clean it really well with carb cleaner and then shoot some wd-40 in there to keep it from sticking . it sounds like the tps is to high josh Quote

nater006 Posted May 7, 2004 Report Posted May 7, 2004 I'd bet on a vacuum leak or similar. To reset the puter in any of these vehicles, you basically leave one of the battery terminals off for like 30 minutes or whatever. Maybe a little more.. i think 30 is probably plenty though Quote

I have to disagree with the location of the Idle Air Control on a GM. IAC is located in the throttle body or in your case the throttle bodies. If it is your IAC then take it out and check it over, clean and go from there. Then check for a vacuum leak(s), throttle body base gasket, intake gasket, vacuum line........ If you end up dumping money into fixing the cross-fire setup don't bother!!! Put your money towards a good intake and a 4barrel carb. The cross-fires are not known for their performance!! I have an 82 Camaro that had a small block but now has a big block. I still have the small block Edlebrock Perfomer intake if you are interested.
