Cotton eyed Joe Posted May 6, 2004 Report Posted May 6, 2004 13/44 with a 21" hauler is what I plan on. Right now they are 20" haulers. This will get me pretty close to stock. 22" haulers would get me even closer, but I think I'll go the 21" and manipulate the gearing a little. Quote
PlaynSand Posted May 6, 2004 Report Posted May 6, 2004 13/43 with 20" paddles for general duning , but if I want to go fast 14/41 and I can use the same chain . Need 22" paddles but with the 20" and 13/43 , I can cruise around in 3rd or 4th gear and never bog the engine in the trails and tight turns. Quote
DUNEDEMON Posted May 6, 2004 Report Posted May 6, 2004 (edited) Oilsmoke I found that the Shearers like a bike that is geared a bit low (porting etc.. will dictate what works best) For example not changing anything engine wise on my bike when I went from the T5's to the Shearers I went from a 14 primary to a 13 primary and the pipes really responded well. I am now at 13 / 41 with 20" paddles. Edited May 6, 2004 by DUNEDEMON Quote
Oilsmoke Posted May 6, 2004 Author Report Posted May 6, 2004 Dunedemon So With my New passion 12 port stroker Ex, is apox 197 degree and Shearer with 13/41 Planned gearing 21x12x8 P paddle This should spin easy with alot of rpm & power. I am looking to have great Hill pulling machine. At lease a good place to start you think? Quote
DUNEDEMON Posted May 6, 2004 Report Posted May 6, 2004 (edited) You have a lot more motor than I do (370LR here with a full dune port) so I don't think you'll have a problem. If you want to do some gear tuning at least they are cheap. That set up works well for me, but I am just a duner, not a hill shooter, I only run a +4 swing arm with 20x11x10 8 paddle sand stars. (added in edit) It seem that no one else is running one of Jim's famous engines with shearers, so you'r going to be the test mule. Edited May 6, 2004 by DUNEDEMON Quote
Oilsmoke Posted May 6, 2004 Author Report Posted May 6, 2004 17/40 2:35 to 1 Hehehe I would never shift out of second gear. It would never Pull 3rd up Choke cherry Blue. You would need 150 horsepower for that gear and that hill. Quote
Blue Duece Posted May 8, 2004 Report Posted May 8, 2004 i run the 17 in the dirt a 15 at dumont but ive climbed tons with the 17 Quote
Oilsmoke Posted May 11, 2004 Author Report Posted May 11, 2004 (edited) Blue Do you feel 15/? is to low a gear for the steepest dumont as to offer? Choke cherry is my goal and Power is a must . That is why I got a Passion 12 port stroker. I only ran about a gallon though it, So i only farted around with it and It's little lean I went up 7 mains sizes and It still wants more fuel . I plan on going to 400 from 370 mains and see next time out. But i am blown away by the lowend It;s going to be a mean Machine I feel the shearer in the bottom end and that is good for a Topend pipe. I may need a DIAPER at 8000 to 10000 rpm , Edited May 11, 2004 by Oilsmoke Quote

I may need a DIAPER at 8000 to 10000 rpm , dumont is kinda my backyard and ive ridden there tons ive blazed up comp hill with a 17 and v grooved all terrain tires(never tried it with holeshots) pinned 5th and crested it before sixth but im not a serious duner i go for the desert ride that surrounds dumont, i like the mines and the armagosa trails and kinda am geared twards mx and open desert..but i did slap my buddys paddles and 15 on my bike and shot comp hill pinned in sixth with no hesitation or bog, maybe pulled a good 80 mph straight up, jims engine hauls real good ass and all that low end you feel doesnt fade with rpms as you probally know.....with jims motor and a 15 and paddles you'll rule dumont on a quad, there wont be alot of drag ported shees that will get that low torque that gets you those first hundred feet...but like i said i smoked straight up it with my 17 but was to the top right as i woulda snaped sixth off...so i dont know if a 17 would bog.... the hill wasnt tall enough to wind fifth up, geared that tall....
