Here's the deal, I've got a 6500 watt Generac Generator with a 10 HP Honda OHV engine. I use it when I go to the dunes to power my toy-haulers electrical stuff. The problem is that the fucker is too loud, I now have a little free time and thought I would look into building a new QUIET exhaust system for it. I don't know shit about small engines so I'm looking for advise and possible sources for a muffler, something small, the generator itself is portable and enclosed in a "cage" of sorts and I would like to keep the new exhaust contained within the cage structure. Any ideas?

I just got through doing the same thing to my gererator All I did was go to the local muffler shop look around till I found a muffler that would fit and welded a adapter to the existing nipple on the exaust manifold and then welded the muffler to that.......sounds simple if you say it fast, good luck

LOL@ Jerry's Kids....

I would do the looking around for small mufflers. You might be able to gang up on them if they are small enough, i.e. weld 2 in a row or something. If I had my tubing bender I could bend you up a custom sweeping chopper style pipe...lol...

Thanks for the ideas guys, unfortunately I've already looked at 6 different local shops and the smallest mufflers they have are WAY to big. The mufflers at the hardware stores that look like canteens are basically the same thing I have now. The pipe work is not that big a concern it will be easy. I was just hoping that someone else had gone through the same thing. I want the thing quiet, but I don't want to add so much backpressure to the engine that it starts running hot. Do you think a stock Banshee silencer would work? What about a T-5 silencer? Again this is a 10HP Honda OHV generator engine - think of it as a big block for your lawn mower.

That's a damn good idea, may pull out all the packing so there's not soo much backpressure like you were saying though. T-5...I dunno, would sound like a fuckin pissed off bumble bee probably. :D

Well I'll try a stock Banshee silencer, maybee Got1 will to, anyone have any stock silencers they want to get rid of? Might be good for my generator - installing Yamaha parts on a Honda.

That is way cool you are doing something. I hate it when someone pulls up next to us at the dunes and unloads a portable generator. Then they run the damn thing all night. TOO LOUD!!!! I can run my genny in my Warrior all night and you can't hear it.

Whatever pipe and muffler you can add on will help.

Try camping world, I bet they have something.

Heck, go to Onans website and see if you can buy a muffler all by itself.
