frocashmoney24 Posted April 17, 2004 Report Posted April 17, 2004 (edited) soak it the whole thing in electric cleaner, get the puller (i got one for 6 bucks at the dealer) the threads twist ont he puller in the counter clockwise way, then u just screw the other screw threw clock wise and its off, try some wd40 to if its real bad Edited April 17, 2004 by boonman Quote
cdcoxwell Posted April 21, 2004 Report Posted April 21, 2004 I also had a hard time getting mine off. What I did was 1. Get the flywheel puller, I got mine from Alba for 9.99 2. I put my foot peg back on and used it for a brace. 3. I also used liquid wrench around the rusted area. 4. Screw in the flywheel puller counter-clock-wise all the way in and then back off one half turn. 5. Put some oil on the end of the center bolt so it will turn easily with all that pressure being applied. 6. I used a cresent wrench on the outer area of the flywheel and turned the whole flywheel until it met the footpeg(that's my brace), that way the flywheel (engine) will not turn as you are applying some serious torque. 7. Then I used a half inch rachet on the inner bolt and most important a 3ft CHEATER-BAR. If it were not for the cheater bar I believe it would have taken me to other methods, headaches, and newly invented curse words. 8. Have someone tap on the flywheel as you apply the pressure. I tried and tried for a couple of days to remove the flywheel and failed until I thought of the brace and cheater bar. Came of in about 5 secs. FYI: My shee is an 87 and sat up for about 10yrs. The flywheel was really rusted on. Hope this helps Quote
cdcoxwell Posted April 21, 2004 Report Posted April 21, 2004 Came OFF in about 5 secs not OF Sorry for the typo Quote
richwuest Posted April 21, 2004 Report Posted April 21, 2004 You definatly need the special puller. Do not try using any other type of puller or prying, it will destroy the flywheel. As for me, I use the puller with it inserted fully into the treads of the flywheel, then use the impact wrench on the puller. Pops right off. Quote
2004LEBanshee Posted April 21, 2004 Report Posted April 21, 2004 carefull when putting the puller on. DONT mess up the thred or it wolln't go on. Quote
