On my 2001 banshee if I grab the top of the wheel I am able to move it back and forth slightly. The hub is nice and tight and so are the wheel nuts. I think I may be some kind of bushing but Im not sure what to replace.

Not hard at all. Just do one side at a time. Do the top by pulling out the pivot bolt ( make sure shee is on jack stands). Once the pivot bolt is out pull out the bushing and replace with the new one. Do same on the bottom but put the top back together first. Take the shock off before you do anything first though. Make sure you do both sides. Also put some grease on the inside and outside of the bushings before you install them.

Are you sure it isn't a ball joint? The test you described is the best way to test for a loose ball joint. Make a mark on your a arm pivot and frame then do this test. You will be able to see if the a arm is moving or the ball joint is moving based on if the marker mark is mis aligned or not.

Very well could be a ball joint also as Stan said, I just had to replace one of my lowers due to a torn ball joint boot. If you can get it on a centerstand it's alot easier to locate the problem. Good luck.
