Mxracer776 Posted April 11, 2004 Report Posted April 11, 2004 i finally got the dyna fs box for my shee because my stock one i thought took a crap.shee now has huge spark but still runs with the key off or totally disconnected. ive tested the harness for shorts and found nothing. the stock kill switch still works fine but the key switch does not.i don't want to fry the new box but this is driving me nuts. any ideas Quote
MotulMonsta Posted April 11, 2004 Report Posted April 11, 2004 Dump the key all together and just run a tether switch. So long as you keep it a closed circut kill meaning the wires must make a connection in order to kill the motor you'll be fine. I suggest viewing a wiring diagram for your banshee. I belive the ignition wires are black solid and black with a white stripe...not shure. Quote

The key switch wire should be grounded when the key is turned on, and not grounded when it is off. If you have a short to ground on that wire, the key switch becomes useless. If that is OK, contact Scott @ Dynatek, describe the problem, and send it in for testing. Its not a common failure at all, but I have seen one or two come back where the key switch wire isn't working properly. We do test that part of it before shipping them, so its really odd that this happened. This problem should not affect any other part of the ignition operation, the rest of it should work as normal. Alternatively, you could sell it as a one off "race-modded" dyna ignition, since it already has the key switch stuff cut out of it. People normally have to ground that circuit in the harness when removing their key switches. So having it built into the box would simplify their wiring harness even more. Mxracer776 Posted April 15, 2004 Author Report Posted April 15, 2004 the problem that i have been having was before i got the dynaFs box. i took out the harness and tested it several times. i even cut the key switch wire(red/blk) right before the connector to the box and it still ran. i know its not the dyna box and as of right know i just cut the key switch connector and soldered the wire together. Meat Posted April 15, 2004 Report Posted April 15, 2004 (edited) bradrs welcome to the forum, that was a great reply you gave. THeres' a pile of guys here running dyna cdi boxes. Dump the key all together and just run a tether switch. agreed. Edited April 15, 2004 by Meat Quote

That is a really weird problem. You checked the black/red wire to see if it was shorted to ground, but did you check to see if it were shorted to any of the other wires that go to the CDI? I have seen a few times where those pre 94 style connectors shorted out inside the connector in the harness. Thats about the only place I could think a short could occur where the wire being cut wouldn't matter, and it would affect both stock and our boxes. It sounds like its a moot point now though, the bypass method works just fine. Meat, thanks for the welcome. I'm glad you guys are happy with it, the response we have gotten from you guys has been great. Brad Quote
