Just go my clymer book and I think I'm in love. It will come in hand w/my 87' restoration prod. In the book it states for PRIMARY COIL TESTING to connect ohmmeter neg. to blk on coil and ohmmeter pos. to org. on coil, got a reading of .2-.3. According to book, I guess that is correct. For SECONDARY TESTING, it states to connect ohmmeter neg. to blk on coil and ommeter pos. to the leads. I did not get any reading @ all. So I took the lead out and connected ohm. pos. to metal tip inside coil. Still nothing. The book has no suggestions if this were to happen. Can you get a reading on one (primary) and no reading on the other (secondary)? So, does the damn thing work or not, and I'm saying that in the nicest tone possible. Hey, it does't say ROOKIE for nothing out to the left. Any help will be great.

The clymer book and factory manual are both wrong on coil ohm checking.

If its wrong than whats the right way ????? :shootself: I'd like to know myself

I tested a buddies stator the other day and got a reading then I checked the pick up coil ()the other 2 wires in that plug-in) which I didn't get anything..Whats that mean stator junk ??

We read coils and stators and pickups all the time at the stealership and use yamaha service manuals and if it don't read to specs it is bad. If the spec says .2-.8 and you read something like .9 it will usually work cause the meter could be off that much, but if it's way off it's bad or the wire is bad going to it. Make sure your fingers don't come into contact with the leads or it will read your resistance.
