"thenewguy" Posted March 6, 2004 Report Posted March 6, 2004 i want to do a leakdown test to see if i can solve my problem with it not starting. if you guys know how exactly its done that would be great. Quote
sweetshee4312 Posted March 6, 2004 Report Posted March 6, 2004 if u have an air leak, take some start fulid(eather) and spry it around the boots, let it idle, if the idle goes up, its got an air leak Quote
vmaxup Posted March 6, 2004 Report Posted March 6, 2004 ok i used to race jet skis and now I built my own. Take two pieces of hose withclamps and plastic end caps and plug off your exaust. Then plug one of your intakes with some pvc and an end cap the oyherone install a gauge with a fitting to put air in. You can get one at a plumbing supply house. Make shure your plugs are installed. Pump up the motor untill you have like 5 pounds dont over do it. It should hold. If not check all of your fittings with soapy water in a spray bottle. then check your seals ect with the soapy water. You will find the leak trust me. Usually it will be the seals. Quote
"thenewguy" Posted March 6, 2004 Author Report Posted March 6, 2004 yes this is what i was looking for. how would you glug off the intake i dont see how that can be done. and where di put the 5 pounds of air in? the other intake? how would you get tight fit? i dont see how thats possable. please tell me, a buddy at my work knows how to do it on other machines but he said he doesnt know how to do it on a banshee. thanks Quote
Leadfoot350 Posted March 6, 2004 Report Posted March 6, 2004 I am also looking to find a gauge and a pump. I made all the other stuff. Do you think that a blood pressure pump would work? Quote
FORMULASPEED Posted March 6, 2004 Report Posted March 6, 2004 You can go to the autoparts store and get rubber plugs for 2.99 a piece get 4 at 1-1/4 for a forsure air tight fit. Then get a vaccuum pump also sold a the auto store. Install the plugs to the exhaust tighten then stick the other plugs in the intake boots may have to use the carb clamps also to get a good seal. Take 1 spark plug out install the vaccuum pump hose to the spark plug hole. With one sgueeze you should get close to 5-6lbs (no more than 5-6 lbs). It should hold pressure. If it doesnt you have a leak somewhere. Check the vaccuum pump for leaks no leaks, then its your engine. Take your stator and plate off. put dish soap around that seal and around anythying that takes a gasket. All soaped up them blow in to the hose not hard you should then be able to see bubbles blowin out where ever you have a leak. Quote
MotulMonsta Posted March 7, 2004 Report Posted March 7, 2004 There is no need to do a leakdown test unless the left piston runs lean due to a bad l/s crank seal and/or the righ runs rich due to a bad crank seal. If your cases arn't mated right, you'll have oil pooling in the crank case and you will vent crank air into the tranny..usualy that is diagnosed my excessive oil run out from the breather vents on the tranny. An improperly done leakdown test can damage the seals on your motor. I would advise against it. Something else is the culprit to your engine troubles. Quote
