JoshWht Posted March 2, 2004 Report Posted March 2, 2004 Hello, I have an 88 Banshee and I would like to change the axle housing/bearing carrier on the rear swing arm, as mine is the older style using 4 short bolts instead of 2 long ones. Because of age and whatnot, it is all sloppy and I am having trouble keeping the chain tight. What I am wondering is if anyone knows whether I can just swap the axle housing from a newer machine in for mine. Has anyone ever done this or know for sure if it will all match up. Thanks for any input, - Josh Quote
Holyman Posted March 2, 2004 Report Posted March 2, 2004 I don't think it will work. If you need a new carrier for your old one I have a 87 carrier. You're best off finding a newer swingarm with a carrier. I got one from ebay for $75 and it's like new. Quote
JoshWht Posted March 4, 2004 Author Report Posted March 4, 2004 Did your old axle slide right into the newer carrier or did you have switch anything? Thanks. Quote
bpreuss Posted March 4, 2004 Report Posted March 4, 2004 i used to have trouble with that too and i had even snapped one of the bolts on a big jump, so i drilled out the holes and put 1/2 inch bolts in it. it hasnt had any snapping issues but they still loosen up. so i think im gonna pick up a new swingarm and carrier. pimp559 Posted March 4, 2004 Report Posted March 4, 2004 Hey Josh I have the same carrier you have in exelent condition. I'd sell it for $30.00 if you want it. Quote
JoshWht Posted March 31, 2004 Author Report Posted March 31, 2004 Hey, Just for future reference for anyone else who has the older style bearing carrier, you can switch just the carrier without the whole swingarm. I got one from a '99 and it bolted right onto my '88 and the axle fits as well. I welded a new washer on one side just to add some strength, but just swapping the new one in tightened everything right up. Thought I would let you guys know in case anyone else was interested. - Josh Quote
