Hello,

I have an 88 Banshee and I would like to change the axle housing/bearing carrier on the rear swing arm, as mine is the older style using 4 short bolts instead of 2 long ones. Because of age and whatnot, it is all sloppy and I am having trouble keeping the chain tight. What I am wondering is if anyone knows whether I can just swap the axle housing from a newer machine in for mine. Has anyone ever done this or know for sure if it will all match up. Thanks for any input,

- Josh

I don't think it will work. If you need a new carrier for your old one I have a 87 carrier.

You're best off finding a newer swingarm with a carrier. I got one from ebay for $75 and it's like new.

i used to have trouble with that too and i had even snapped one of the bolts on a big jump, so i drilled out the holes and put 1/2 inch bolts in it. it hasnt had any snapping issues but they still loosen up. so i think im gonna pick up a new swingarm and carrier.

Hey,

Just for future reference for anyone else who has the older style bearing carrier, you can switch just the carrier without the whole swingarm. I got one from a '99 and it bolted right onto my '88 and the axle fits as well. I welded a new washer on one side just to add some strength, but just swapping the new one in tightened everything right up. Thought I would let you guys know in case anyone else was interested.
