theeechozen1 Posted March 2, 2004 Report Posted March 2, 2004 I am having Gary at quicksand whip me up a set of +2+1's right now, but I am kind of having a problem choosen shocks. I e-mailed this guy on ebay who is selling the deul rate elkas without rezzies for 525.00 shipped, he wants 739.00 shipped for the same shock with remote rezzies. My roomate has works tripples w/o rezzies with lonestar race arms and has had pretty good results with em. I want to know how much better the shocks with rezzies are compared to shocks without. Like would a works set up with rezzies be a better choice than elkas without? Or are the elkas going to outperform the works altogether? Just wanted to get some outside opinions before I order. Thanx Quote
frocashmoney24 Posted March 2, 2004 Report Posted March 2, 2004 the elkas will out perform the works, with or without rezzi's there just a better shock, as for ressi's, they are to keep the oil in the shocks cooler i belive and they have it work bettter, it depends on what kinda riding your doing Quote
banshee04le Posted March 2, 2004 Report Posted March 2, 2004 I have the same arms on order with Gary. I ordered the elka duals without rezzies. I talked to eric at elka and he said that the performance difference would not be noticeable with a rec rider. If you are running balls to the wall racing, lap after lap on a grueling track the rezzies will provide more consistant damping by keeping the shock cooler. Damping ability can fade if the shocks get too hot. Rezzies can possibly extend time between rebuilds as well. What sold me on no rezzies right now is that, when I send them in for rebuild in a year or two or whenever they need it, the rezzies can be added at that time for virtually no more cost than the price difference of ordereing them with the rezzies now. They can add remote rezzies or piggyback. I was going to get them with the rezzies but my computer shot craps and I had to buy a new one By the way, you can order from elka direct, and avoid the possibility of a middle man conveying the wrong information about weight, a-arms and riding style, resulting in improper shock setup. The number is 1-800-557-0552. Ask for eric. He can answer any questions you have and take your order. They are kicking ass right now and getting the shocks out in like 1 week! Quote
locogato11283 Posted March 2, 2004 Report Posted March 2, 2004 dude no matter what you do the elkas will out perform the works. i love my elkas. i ride the shit out of them and have never once bottomed them. hell i have never even adjusted them from the way i bought them over 2 years ago. you wont regret purchasing a set. if youre a rec rider just go with the non rezzies. if you race mx get some rezzies. The only difference between rezzies and no rezzies is how much you abuse them. Everything on them is the same, except the amout of oil they hold and having a space for cooling (the reservoir). If you ride hard for hours, you'll need them. Chances are duners don't need them, because the shock is really getting worked hard. Desert racers, mx racers and flattrackers really benefit from them. If you go out on the weekends and trail ride, or go out a few days a week and beat around the mx track for fun, chances are you won't need the rezzies. If you race every weekend and spend the week on the track training, and your shocks are getting beat for hours on end or when they work it's grueling whoops or doubles and triples over and over for long periods of time, the shock oil can overheat without the reservoir and cause it to fade. 60% of people don't need the rezzies. Blue Duece Posted March 2, 2004 Report Posted March 2, 2004 i think you'll like the elkas, the rezzie is nice to have, but you wont heat the none rezzy unless your hauling ass for long periods, your buddys works are soft so when putting he will soak it up a little better but as you accelarate side by side over whoops, youll blow right by him, elkas ssd design is real nice also, and your right, go right to eric at elka no sense having a middle man screw things up......ask eric for a nice elka tee-shirt with your order...... sredish Posted March 2, 2004 Report Posted March 2, 2004 go right to eric at elka no sense having a middle man screw things up......ask eric for a nice elka tee-shirt with your order...... shows you how dumb I am, I went through Duncan racing. But hey, I got some nifty Duncan stickers out of the deal. Quote

theeechozen1 Posted March 2, 2004 Author Report Posted March 2, 2004 Thanks for the info guys, I will going with the elkas no matter what.. If I have some extra cake when I order them next week I might sport the remote rezzies for the bling effect, I love the way they look. I will call Eric tommorrow and set it up. The arms are getting powder coated yamaha blue tops and bottoms, I cant wait to strap em on! Quote
pimpinshee Posted March 2, 2004 Report Posted March 2, 2004 Deffinatly get the rezzies. Will keep your shocks running way cooler and they will last longer without having to rebuild them. Quote
theeechozen1 Posted March 2, 2004 Author Report Posted March 2, 2004 I talked to Eric this morning and he knows whats up with shocks fo show! He lectured me on what I really needed and recommended I go with the non-adjustable non-rezzies that are $515.00. For my dune riding and desert balling he said they will be more than enough to handle it. Thanks for giving me his name I think without the middle man It will get done right the first time. Now I just have to wait for all my goodies to get here I just want to sit in front of my bike and stare at the new stance while I drink beer Quote

ledofthezep Posted March 2, 2004 Report Posted March 2, 2004 I just want to sit in front of my bike and stare at the new stance while I drink beer That's what I did,...well actually like a 12'r. But it happens! I happened to pick up another shee & took all the 'goodies' off of it. Came with works tripples w/rezzies. They're a big improvement over stock & I've had good results with them so far. Sometime in the future I'm going to send them in & have them rebuilt for my weight & riding style and I imagine they'll be even better then. I'd still love to have me some Elkas or custom axis, maybe even Pep or Ohlins. My rear shock is an ohlins rebuilt & it's great. Quote
theeechozen1 Posted March 2, 2004 Author Report Posted March 2, 2004 ya I would love to put a rear shock on with the fronts but damn they are spensive! I think I will have my stocker rebuilt with gold valves and put a correct spring on it for my fat ass, that should get her done. Quote

He lectured me on what I really needed and recommended I go with the non-adjustable non-rezzies that are $515.00. Very sweet. You're going to be completely hooked up. That's awesome. I kinda wish I'd have gone directly to elka, although I am very happy with mine and Duncan was a pleasure to work with. (Where's my damn tshirt?) The harder you push them, the better they perform. They are a high quality piece of work, and you'll see how awesome they really are when you unpackage them. The only thing I wish, is that I could back my compression off a tad more. They're perfect on the track and hitting hard, and I turn the compression up a bunch for that, but when at the dunes or dinking around, I back the compression off, and I'd like a few more clicks softer. However, they were built exactly as specified, no surprises. Quote
