They can be good, but they will never be the best at it. There are quite a few on here that have set there's up for exactly that. Blue Duece, Meat, Bigmotoxer, Banchetta and many others have set ups that are worth checking out. I have done just about everything to set mine up for MX except the - length swingarm. Suspension is the real game when you are building an MX Banshee. An engine that hits down low and smoothly is what you are going to be after. But even a stock Banshee is fun on the track.

Those pictures are of Tim Farr's second race on the 450r, just to get into the same class, it must have been set up right.

i think they are nice for the longer desert tracks, if you've got something down low you can pull away from the R's and thumpers through the straights, but you need a chassis and suspension that will let you hang on.....and banshee's are all around fun bikes to ride......
