A couple months ago I found a set of CPI pipes for a very good price in my area and I bought them for a new build once I have the dough. Does anyone have any experience or recommendations for removing chrome from 2 stroke exhaust without screwing up the pipes?? If I can do it at home or something I’d prefer that to taking them to a chrome shop and having them remove the plating. The chrome on these is peeling pretty bad and I want to convert them to raw steel if possible. Any input is appreciated guys, let me know what you think.

Thanks

Hydrochloric acid will remove chrome. But it can also attack the base metal, has to be rinsed off well once the chrome has been removed.

But, you have to be very cautious using it. Use all the PPE!

I'd imagine if it's already peeling it can be media blasted as well

I wouldn't even risk it. I'd take them to a chrome shop. Expansion chamber metal is so thin that it doesn't take much to fuck them up.

Yeah I kind of had a feeling it would be best to do that…
