Need to have continuity from Black/Red to Red for it to run.

Yep.

And if you need to test the thumb switch, just unplug it.

I had similar problem but in my case was faulty spark plug cups ,they have resistors inside and they went kaput.
Just something to keep in mind in case everything else passes the test and turns out to be good.

Sorry that's a question I'm bad when it comes to electrical

The thumb switch grounds out the system to kill it, so it will run unplugged.

Man am I glad I joined this site everyone has been more then helpful if I didn't join this I would of burned this thing or just kept buying useless parts

So no power coming out of stator just order oem new one
