Big Blue Posted December 13, 2003 Report Posted December 13, 2003 What is the ideal way to set up to run this. Quote
wesw Posted December 13, 2003 Report Posted December 13, 2003 TR 6 SHEE in your post you claim to not run 20cc domes with pump gas. i run it and havent had any problems Quote
RUNMYTA Posted December 14, 2003 Report Posted December 14, 2003 Big Blue, You do not need the higher Octane fuel unless you are running high compression. If you want to run AVGAS/100ll you need to have your stock head milled or add a cool head to raise compression to over 180lbs. Majority of the time when jetting you can just go one size larger on the main and fine tune it with the air screw. Quote
holeshotkid Posted December 14, 2003 Report Posted December 14, 2003 TR 6 SHEE in your post you claim to not run 20cc domes with pump gas. i run it and havent had any problems Same here, only I have 19cc domes. All I have ran is 91 and with my porting, I have 155 psi of compression. Quote
RUNMYTA Posted December 14, 2003 Report Posted December 14, 2003 Porting will lower overall compression. That is why most engine builders suggest that you mill your stock head or go with a cool head to get the compression back up. I personally run 17cc domes on my XC ported shee and have 215lbs of compression. The key here is "HIGHER COMPRESSION NEEDS HIGHER OCTANE" End of story. Mike Quote

I know i am planning on getting my motor done this spring if i have the money, and there is a airport about 3 miles from my house. Quote
banshee tuner Posted December 15, 2003 Report Posted December 15, 2003 I like the way cam-2 smells and i just moved to a town that has it for 3.50 a gallon and i also hear that av fuel is cheap here to. The cam-2 does a great job and i am going to try av fuel. I will post back on the av results. Quote
dnhyoung Posted December 28, 2003 Report Posted December 28, 2003 I'm probably going to get blasted for adding my 2 cents on this subject but I have an uncle that has been a pilot for years. He explained to me that the basic difference between race gas and av gas is that Race gas is designed to burn cooler and AV gas has additives designed to make it burn hotter. Besides the basic octane rating, The idea is To Keep the airplane engine at operating temp while dealing with cooler temps at the high altitudes that planes reach. Again just my 2 cents but I would rather spend the money and have my shee run cooler....... Quote
BansheeBruce Posted December 29, 2003 Report Posted December 29, 2003 I run 50/50 AV and 91 Octane Pump gas. Runs fine, cheaper yet! Quote
Travis's Banshee Posted December 29, 2003 Report Posted December 29, 2003 I know guys that run AV gas in all their toys w/no problems. If you can believe what they write in the magazines. They say the drying agents needed to run at high altitudes are hard on engines not designed for it. Don't know for sure, but I run VP w/no problems. Figure my toys cost enough, I don't need to take the chance. My $.02 Quote
yamaha350 Posted December 30, 2003 Report Posted December 30, 2003 they take lubricants out of av gas that other fuels have. but you have to run mix oil with is so it doesnt matter. i ran out of av gas one weekend and had to buy race gas. the bike definatly ran better with the av gas. and yes i checked the jetting. Big Blue Posted December 31, 2003 Report Posted December 31, 2003 I just checked and the local air port sells 100ll for $1.99 a gallon which is about $1.50 cheaper than the race gas that i know of. Quote
