broke350 Posted November 22, 2016 Report Posted November 22, 2016 You could always just pick up a new set of boots while you're at it. Especially if they're even the slightest bit suspect as to your air leak. Quote
yamaha driver Posted November 23, 2016 Author Report Posted November 23, 2016 Well I guess it has a timing plate too, I took of the side cover and noticed its at about +6, PO said engine was stock but he didn't own it for very long so I guess not. But that seems pretty far advanced IMO. But I'm new to messing with the timing on these, so what should this be at? Quote
trickedcarbine Posted November 23, 2016 Report Posted November 23, 2016 What fuel? That's quite a bit of timing if you are just running pump fuel. Quote
yamaha driver Posted November 23, 2016 Author Report Posted November 23, 2016 I have 91 in it now, can I just retard the timing and run 91? Quote
trickedcarbine Posted November 23, 2016 Report Posted November 23, 2016 I would definitely back the timing to zero to see if it makes a difference. Quote
yamaha driver Posted November 23, 2016 Author Report Posted November 23, 2016 Well I just set it back to zero and put the new clamps on and the plugs turned to a lightish brown with very dark brown waves? But it still cracks apart at high rpm about half way through the powerband, choking it just makes it worse. The pickup coil looks new so maybe it's a rm stator? Quote
trickedcarbine Posted November 23, 2016 Report Posted November 23, 2016 Well, it is possible that the excess timing made it run weird. You mentioned you compensated with richer jetting? If it's clearly responding to less timing, it may be wise to start backing down fuel to see if it cleans up and runs better. Quote
yamaha driver Posted November 23, 2016 Author Report Posted November 23, 2016 (edited) Well I compensated the lean condition with richer jetting which I believe was the intake clamps, I didn't know it had a timing plate, and it's still at 340 mains at about 20F now, but the plugs are seem fine now they aren't wet around the bottom and it barely got hot even after riding it for a while. But it ran great no more low end bog and great power until it just hits almost like a rev limiter. Edited November 23, 2016 by yamaha driver Quote

I know people (rightly) say that jetting is way rich, but I run 25/350s in mine with T5s, KN, no lid, +5 timing and it revs clean throughout. Just feels safer like that because I may ride WFO in 6th for several seconds without letting out. Quote
broke350 Posted November 23, 2016 Report Posted November 23, 2016 Agreed. Sounds like stator to me also. Have you tested yours? Quote
J-Madd Posted November 24, 2016 Report Posted November 24, 2016 Agreed. Sounds like stator to me also. Have you tested yours? My stator is good. I have had that issue you describe with a bad stator though. Quote
broke350 Posted November 24, 2016 Report Posted November 24, 2016 Oh, sorry I was asking the op if he tested his yet. I've seen a few vids showing this same symptom. Quote

sleeper06 Posted November 24, 2016 Report Posted November 24, 2016 IMO opinion you need to get those plugs sealed 100% with no bubbles. Clean holes n plugs with ascetone then use some three bond 1211 and some new hose clamps n retest. Have you ohm tested the plug caps n coil Quote
sleeper06 Posted November 24, 2016 Report Posted November 24, 2016 You also need to give sealer 24hrs to dry , I've seen sealer get pushed out without proper drying time Quote
