got1banshee Posted December 4, 2003 Report Posted December 4, 2003 I feel like a dumb shit but when I got my shee I had the parking brake on and I started the shee up to show the guy next door to me and it sounded like shit, wouldn;t rev up wouldn't do anything. I spent hours changing plugs, regaping plugs, checking timing, coils ext....... So I made a phone call to Alba and they told me to undo my parking brake, hahaha ran great!!!!!!!!! Emagine that haha, how do you bypass that? I want to take that big cluster mess off my bars and put a nice crome one on it. Oh one more question. What are the TORs for? can I take them off? Should I take them off or just leave them alone? thanks Rick Quote

TheNewGuy Posted December 4, 2003 Report Posted December 4, 2003 hey man, you can usually just take the whole parking brake cable off and get a whole new clutch lever and clutch perch...pretty cheap...just leave the thing that the e-brake plugs into on the bike (it's back on the rear brake assembly)...it's a sealed unit so you cant exactly take it off and leave it off...i just took the whole brake line out and bought a new clutch lever/perch. as far as the TORS...ya gotta leave it on unless you buy a TORS Eliminator kit (sells for about $50 on ebay)..they are just computers so like if your throttle sticks and it's revving like crazy, it'll just make it bog instead of blow up...someone in here can probably correct me about this but at least it gives you the basic idea... hope this helps SOME Mike Quote
Wheatchex Posted December 4, 2003 Report Posted December 4, 2003 Make sure if you take the parking brake cable off to get a parking brake block off plate. They can be had from just about anywhere that sells aftermarket parts. Most are billet aluminum and all will bolt onto the rear brake caliper in place of the parking brake mechanisim. The TORS is needed in case of stuck throttles, the boxes on the carbs each contain a switch and the thumb throttle has one as well. When a stuck throttle is sensed, the engine is shut down. You can get the TORS elimnator kits which include new carb caps, idle screws and a new cable. However you need to be aware that you are now very responsible for the maintenence of the throttle cables and throttle mechanisims. If you don't take care of them the bike will bite you or some one else and it will not be pleasant. Lube the cables regularly and check for fraying and binding. This maintence should be done whether you have the TORS eliminator or not. Toomey racing website has detailed instructions on what goes into the tors elimination. Toomey Racing Wheatchex Quote
