mailman Posted December 21, 2015 Report Posted December 21, 2015 Hey guys, I have a white fullbore front hood that I want in a gloss black. What is the best option without breaking the bank? Plasti-coat looks too dull. I want a gloss finish. The mobil paint repair guy wants $200 to do an "average" job. The cheap body shop wants $300 to do a base coat with clear. Krylon Fusion looks to be a good option but reviews have been mixed although most have been on regular ATV fenders that flex more than the Fullbore ones. I am tempted to just wet sand the white paint and hit it with Krylon Fusion. Any help/options/or ideas are appreciated. Quote
trickedcarbine Posted December 22, 2015 Report Posted December 22, 2015 Send to RB for paint and be wowed. Quote
possum Posted December 22, 2015 Report Posted December 22, 2015 I dont know of a spray can that can really put a nice glossy finish. Although ive never tried either. Your best bet would be a real base/clear job. If done right, it will look light years better then anything else and last as well. Quote

Bennett131 Posted December 22, 2015 Report Posted December 22, 2015 I've never seen a spray bomb job turn out good. Quote
Wadester555 Posted December 22, 2015 Report Posted December 22, 2015 Def not spary can, ive painted a couple of old old sets i had laying around just to test and they chip after while even with clear and just a pain the in the butt. Get them done right way Quote
mailman Posted December 22, 2015 Author Report Posted December 22, 2015 Thanks guys. I will hold off on the rattle can then. What is a fair price for a base/clear job? Can I do the prep myself or should I just have them do it all? Quote
bluebanshee98 Posted December 22, 2015 Report Posted December 22, 2015 Ever consider trading for a black one instead of painting? 1 Quote
mailman Posted December 22, 2015 Author Report Posted December 22, 2015 Not a bad idea but I have been looking for a black one and nothing has been available. Shipping is expensive too. Quote
mrd1985james Posted December 22, 2015 Report Posted December 22, 2015 You need to use an adhesion promoter on them it helps the paint stay on Sent from my LGLS991 using Tapatalk Quote
mailman Posted December 23, 2015 Author Report Posted December 23, 2015 Can I use Bulldog adhesion promoter? How much sanding is needed if the hood is already smooth? Quote
