CoolRaptor2001 Posted November 23, 2003 Report Posted November 23, 2003 TORS on left carb keeps coming off! The threads on the plastic thing are stripped or something but in any case it keeps popping off. If I hold it down with my hand the motor runs fine except the left cylinger seems to be missing every now and then, causing it to smoke ALOT. I dunno what to do because unless that thing is on there good and tight like is suppose to be, the throttle gets stuck wide open and theres nothing i can do besides reach down and hold it on there. Any ideas? So it begins.... Quote
Wassup350 Posted November 23, 2003 Report Posted November 23, 2003 Get a removal kit for it and just take off all that junk. I beleive white brothers has a kit. it comes with idle screws new tops and a throttle cable. Quote
CoolRaptor2001 Posted November 23, 2003 Author Report Posted November 23, 2003 Yeah thats what I intend on doing. Problem is I just spent every last dollar I had yesterday Any idea how to get it to stay on there untill i can get a removal kit? also how much do they cost and where do I get them like what site? Thanks for a fast response by the way! Quote
XTShee Posted November 23, 2003 Report Posted November 23, 2003 I have the same problem with one of mine, I plan on gettin bigger carbs so the removal kit was a waste of time for me What I did was take the carb out, put some plubers thread tape around the screwed thread then twist the top on so its tight. Then I got an old bycycle tire tube and cut it in to some strips and used them like rubber bands to hold the top on. It holds it tight as, I have been riding for around a 1 1/2 months like this with no probs. It looks a bit mickey mouse, but it works was cheap and I can ride so who cares Quote
CoolRaptor2001 Posted November 24, 2003 Author Report Posted November 24, 2003 Hmm tomorrow ill have to try the tape idea. I already put it on the splines on the shift shaft because the shifter teeth are worn out and if I shift down hard the shifter just keeps going Even if I hold it (TORS) down as hard as I can with my hand and let it idle the left cylinder still acts weird, it smokes real bad and it sounds like its not firing all the time Like it skips every other time or something. So I dont wanna run it unless iam trying to fix it because ive heard that stuff like that can bend the crank...that would be a bad thing. Hmm hope I get paid this week, I have a list of stuff to get already: TORS Remove kit New front tires New front wheel bearings New shift lever ^^^^the essentials. After I save up some money after getting all that stuff I wanna take it to the shop and have the wiring fixed. Like make it so ON is actualy ON and not OFF and make it so I can turn off the lights. And make it so the tether switch works...'cuz I might be needin that Quote
boonman Posted November 24, 2003 Report Posted November 24, 2003 It sounds as though you have some bigger problems than just the TORS. That wiring sounds as though it could be a bit of a problem.... Banshees are slightly more difficult in the wiring problem department than other bikes, but not too hard.... Quote
CoolRaptor2001 Posted November 24, 2003 Author Report Posted November 24, 2003 Joy I put that white teflon(SP?) tape all around the top of the carb and rammed the TORS thing on it Its realy tight now, but I cant test it because its raining and I cant pull it outside. Who knows, maybe it will run fine maybe it wont I took out both plugs, the left was oil covered as expected (but it was still firing) so I used a lighter and burned all the gas/oil off both plugs then used a wire brush on them. I held my thumb over both cylinders and kicked it over just to make sure no leaks anywere and all that, its fine. The plugs are 2 days old so they should still be alright. I dunno if the guy who put them in gapped them or not..I imagine he did but Iam not sure. He said it had been sitting for about 4 months without being ridden very much, would that have anything to do with my problems I wonder? Hmm I dunno, anyway thanks for all the help you people have given me so far! Quote
CoolRaptor2001 Posted November 24, 2003 Author Report Posted November 24, 2003 Well, the white tape didnt work. Made it up and down my driveway 2 times before coming right back off. I finaly (after pushing i down back into position) got like 5 or 6 zip-ties and put them around the bottom of the carb to the top of the TORS thing. I put the ties at diff. angles so it is on there nice and tight. I rode around for about 10 minutes before it got dark and it held on just fine. I think that its, but you never know P.S.- Iam pretty sure the reason why it kept coming off was the gold clip type thing that screws into the carb and holds the round plastic thing on was missing. Quote
Spank_N_U Posted November 25, 2003 Report Posted November 25, 2003 my gold retainers are gone off of my bike also...but but caps stay tight...how tight do you make them? hand tight? if so make em tighter than that..not too tight as they may strip but snug em down with some channel locks or something. Quote
CoolRaptor2001 Posted November 25, 2003 Author Report Posted November 25, 2003 I tried that, the caps are already stripped on the left side. As far as I can tell, the right side is pretty tight, even has the gold retainer. I put that white tape on the threads on the carb, then i pushed the cap down and turned it some like i was screwing it on. That held it pretty tight but it still came loose after a few mins of riding so thats when I got the zip-ties out Quote
Meat Posted November 25, 2003 Report Posted November 25, 2003 zip ties and duct tape fix everything. Quote
