I just purchased a banshee and it will not change gears by while using gear selecter. I just pulled the clutch basket off and inspected the shift star and found alittle bit of wear on what I believe is the shaft for neutral. However, I don't think enough to cause a problem. While having everything apart I was able to shift the trans by rotating the shift star by hand. I did however find some issues with the shift shaft. I am not sure if this will cause shiftiting issues. Please advise.

You put it in all the way and back it out so that it leaves the end hanging out past the shift shaft about 3/16. Then you turn the bolt so that it sits dead center of the shift shaft.

So I checked the eccentric bolt and it was actually broken. I ordered a new one and found that I am missing the part # 5 in the diagram Washer, Lock yamaha part# 90215-08174-00. Does this part need to be a yamaha part or will a standard lock washer suffice?

Not sure. Is there anyway to really tell for sure?

Ya, split the cases. It's not that bad. Crank, and two gear clusters in side. Just pick everything up flat and level so the shift rod ball doesn't go flying and you don't lose the clips .

What material is that washer?

So i just received the new eccentric adjustment stud and it seems as if this was most of the problem. However, the shift shaft seems to wiggle toward the right after a few shifts and then has to be pushed back in slightly (0.5 inch) in order to shift again. What should be holding this from moving toward the right? Where are items 2,3 and 7 internal or external because this quad has nothing other than the shifter on the left (stator side)?

2 is a white plastic collar. 3 is the spring with tails that go on each side of the eccentric bolt. They both go on the shaft before you slide it in. 7 is the shift shaft seal that goes in the stator side of the case. The shift shaft is held in place by a nub on the clutch cover.
