Atvrider_96 Posted November 13, 2003 Report Posted November 13, 2003 I put a new top end on and got my Cylinders ported and polished. I milled my head and put it on two. It a bare to start but once i start it if i rev. it its ok. But as soon as i let go of the trottle to try to let it idle it dies. Do i need to rejet it? Will that solve my problem? Quote
beezy Posted November 13, 2003 Report Posted November 13, 2003 Yea, your pilot circuit is not jetted right. First determine if it is lean or rich. Does is pop and rev a little high before it dies, or does is come down to idle and bog a bit. Let it get almost to idle before it dies, and give it some revs, does it have poor response (hesitation or bogging)? If not, you may be jetted right, but you need to bring you idle up some. But since you made mods, the jetting is probably off. Did you rejet since you made the mods? If not, I would think you might be lean. But usually when you are lean you know it. Tinker around with. Jot down where your air screws are set now (so you can reset them back if needed), and try putting them in a turn or a turn in a half. If it helps, you knwo you were lean, and work from there. If it is worse you know you are rich and reste your screws to where they were orginally and turn them out a turn or so. Quote
Atvrider_96 Posted November 13, 2003 Author Report Posted November 13, 2003 My SHeee is running a little rich. When it gets down to idle it boggs out when i try to rev it up. So it looks like i need to re jet it because i am running just the stock jet in the carbs. Quote
beezy Posted November 13, 2003 Report Posted November 13, 2003 Well, you may not need to rejet the whole thing. It is running properly besides the idle and when you first give it some throttle? If so, you likely need to adjust the air screws on the sides of the carbs, and thats it. Try turning them out (counter-clockwise) one complete turn on each. Then try firing it back up and see how she does. Once you get in the general area you can make very slight adjustments on the air screws to get it just right. Quote
SDD Posted November 13, 2003 Report Posted November 13, 2003 The first thing you need to do is to adjust the idle high enough that it will not die. If you have the stock jetting you will want to richen up the main jet before doing anything else. You need to make sure the tube that goes between the carbs is there and in the proper position. Not having the choke tube in place will make it every hard to start. Just turn up the idle and rejet the carbs for the main jet. Once you have the right main jet in there adjust the rest of the settings until you get the needle position set right. You really do jet kind of backwards by starting with the main, needle, pilot, and finally the air screw. Quote
. Posted November 13, 2003 Report Posted November 13, 2003 first of all is your choke tube connected? Quote
