Rebuilding the new banshee

I bought a banshee with a bad motor super cheap, now comes time to start rebuilding it. This is a budget build, I want to keep it simple.

This motor needs a complete rebuild, bottom and top. Hopefully I can find stock crank and rods, but it will need a rebore( it's 65mm). Would it be worth it to go 70? Or just keep small?

when you say 70 what are you referring to. Also since you have to go for a full rebuild why not throw a decent crank in like something from hotrods.

How low of a budget are we talking? $400? $800? $1,000?

My budget would be 800 at the most the local shop here has lots of banshee stock of spare parts was hoping I could get a crank and rods.

OK, that's probably doable if you find a good deal on a stock trued and welded crank.

Only have it bored as far as it needs to clean up the cylinders. Let the builder determine what size you need.

TIMEOUT...... Are you 100% certain your "machinist" is competent in doing this? Now I know there are some sled shops in BC that are capable but a few bucks in shipping to a KNOWN BUILDER to have your cyld work done can be the best money spent.

Few sled shops in bc? There's a few good sled shop right here in town. My machinist knows his shit, he is capable.

65.5mm would be your next bore. If you have a local cycle shop or machinist that does this work normally, that would be okay. usually 60-80 bucks a cylinder. Then youll need crank, FAST racing has hot rods trued and welded cranks for $400  i believe. wiseco pistons $175 for both. 2 wristpin bearings $20 for both. and youll need complete gasket and seal kit maybe $80. and a good sealer like 1211 is $20.

That will put you at about $815 if rest of bike is in check. You can also stay on the hunt in the FOR SALE section on this site and score some really sweet deals on used/ barely used parts and go that route.

actually dutchy.....65.25 is the next step up in piston size that is available......but it all comes down to what the bore mic shows.....if its too egg shaped its gonna have to be bored out bigger.
