Yamaha350T Posted November 1, 2003 Report Posted November 1, 2003 My banshee is sputtering right down low and into midrange. Top end it runs good on the top end. It has PC pipes, k+n filter w/ pro flo, adjustable ricky stator plate. The silencers aren't the 304's, they're the forrestry approved ones that have huge openings instead of the small ones like the 304's. Does anyone know what size jet I should have??It has 260's right now. The adjustable stator plate is on the stock position. What clip position should the needles be at??(how high should they be?) Please help. It ran awesome before with 260's and a foam filter and stock stator. I need to fix it ASAP Quote
2banshees Posted November 2, 2003 Report Posted November 2, 2003 you said it ran great b4 the foam filter and the 260's. the jetting could be the prob. but i would start with the filter. if you dont know how to properly maintain a foam filter it will hurt your performance. start with cleaning the filter first with solvent then with dish detergent. the solvents break down the oils in the filter and the dish detergent breaks up all the dirt. squeeze all excess water out and let it air dry. next is the tricky part that not everyone thinks about. oiling the filter. buy some foam air filter oil put it on the filter evenly. squeeze out the excess. get you some paper towels wrap the filter in paper towels and squeeze all the excess oil out. too much oil chokes out the bike. if that doesnt work try adjusting the air screws. screw the air screws all the way in and then count the turns out. make sure they are both the same.the air screws shouldnt go out further than 2 and a half turns or in more than a half a turn. i bet if you turn them out a half a turn youll notice a difference. sorry so long i was bored. Yamaha350T Posted November 3, 2003 Author Report Posted November 3, 2003 I know how to clean a foam filter , and the k+n. Thats not the problem though. The air screws are a 1/2 turn out now, but i'll try messin with those. Thanks for the tips. Quote
barrett Posted November 3, 2003 Report Posted November 3, 2003 you may have to go up on the pilot. You mentioned bottom end to mid-range, at those locations the pilots and needle/jet have the most to do with performance. One way you can check to see whether you're too lean or rich is when you begin pushing the throttle with the quad in gear ( to load up the engine) try pulling out the choke half pull. If the quad runs better, your too lean in that range, if it runs worse, your too rich. Quote
Banchetta Posted November 3, 2003 Report Posted November 3, 2003 If it ran fine before and you haven't changed anything then the jetting shouldn't be the problem unless you moved. Elevation change?? Clean the carbs thoroughly w/ an air compressor... Quote
trax250 Posted November 7, 2003 Report Posted November 7, 2003 well this could take a while. Start with looking for any air leaks. This could lean the bike out. If everything is ok and depending on the elevation you live in go up two sizes on your pilot jet and drop the clip on your needle. By allowing the bike to breath better with the pipes it is calling for more fuel. With the stator plate you can go up to 5 deg advance with out hurting the performance. I have mine set a 3 deg adv. If you have any questions you can e-mail me at [email protected] and let me know how the info did for you. Thanks Tim Quote
Yamaha350T Posted November 23, 2003 Author Report Posted November 23, 2003 Oh, I forgot that it has the TORS eliminator kit on the top of the carbs, so the idle jet goes into the side of the carburetors, instead of in the big tors thing on top Quote
Wassup350 Posted November 23, 2003 Report Posted November 23, 2003 I'm pretty sure sputtering is caused from being lean because when mine sputtered i went up on my jetting and it helped it. move your clip down to richen the mid range rpms. you will probably need to go up on your pilots too or maybe just turn the air screws in. I'd also go up on your main jets. Try starting at like 320 or something and go down on it till it runs better. Quote
94BansheeRider Posted November 24, 2003 Report Posted November 24, 2003 How old is your bike? Mine is nine, and for the last year and a half I had the same problem. It turned out to be the ignition module. It would run fine in the high rpms, but sputter at 1/8 to mid. I tried all kinds of carb adjustments. Finally the module died one day. Put the Dyna ingnition on, and it's a whole new machine and then some. I run 280's with the clip on the 4th position from the top. Just a thought... Peace, Quote
Yamaha350T Posted December 2, 2003 Author Report Posted December 2, 2003 Thanks for all your help. I put 300s for jets in and it still did the same thing so its not lean, like Banchetta said. It was a good guess though. 94BansheeRider I think got it because I knew it was an electrical problem after I rejetted and nothing happened. Thanks to everone that helped! Quote
Yamaha350T Posted December 2, 2003 Author Report Posted December 2, 2003 I didn't mean that Banchetta said it WAS lean, I meant he said it wasn't. Thanks Quote
