BakoBanshee Posted October 31, 2003 Report Posted October 31, 2003 Hey guys, I have the Pro-Design air filter kit with the foam set-up (lid on, no snorkel, FMF Fatty's) . I was thinking of switching it to the K&N set-up without the airlid on. Would it be worth it performance wise, since I would have to buy another flange to mount the K&N? Also does anyone know if the foam flange can be modified to accept the K&N filter? Thanks. Quote
SCOTT PRESSLEY Posted October 31, 2003 Report Posted October 31, 2003 YES.THE K+N FILTER CAN GO TO YOUR STOCK PLASTIC FILTER MOUNT.THE K+N COMES WITH DIRECTIONS TO THIS,BUT YOU WILL NEED THE LID TO HOLD IT IN.YOU CAN MODIFY THE IN SIDE OF LID AND CUT A 2IN HOLE IN THE LID AT THE END OF THE FILTER TO GIVE IT MORE AIR.WORK PRETTY GOOD.YOU WILL NEED THE OUTERWEAR FOR THE FILTER IF YOU DO THIS.KEEPS IT CLEANER LONGER. fixitrod Posted October 31, 2003 Report Posted October 31, 2003 Sounds like you have the kit that bolts to the airbox. If not, you can silicone and bolt the stock plate to the airbox in order to get rid of the lid. I'm not sure you'll gain a lot more from a uni foam or a k&n filter. Some say the guaze type filters allow powdery dust in. I have a k&n and run an outwear. I ran my top end for 3 years and my piston skirts were only .004 wore. That's pretty good considering they were machined at .003 inch. To each there own. You'll notice more performance from unretricting the airbox than having a different filter in there. Just remember to re-jet. Quote
Justintoxicated Posted October 31, 2003 Report Posted October 31, 2003 Yea, you can cut off the little plastic bars and just use the backplate piece for the K&N.. I have mine ziptied and siliconed with cler RTV silicon to the airbox. Works fine for 4 years now. Quote
KEVPOPPAPUMP Posted October 31, 2003 Report Posted October 31, 2003 For what its worth, I used to run a K&N/ProFlo combo but switched to foam. I have a tendency to over oil and K&N oil tended to clog the pilot jets causing my shee to die at idle. So if you do K&N just don't over oil. Quote
2001SSTBanshee Posted October 31, 2003 Report Posted October 31, 2003 I prefer the foam also, IMO it filters better and is better with water Quote
