jeramie Posted April 30, 2013 Report Posted April 30, 2013 Doing a pancake bearing install on a buddies bike. Do you have to re-use the original rods? All it came with was like a 3 inch threaded rod and the bearing and the part that pushes the clutch basket. This is very confusing and it didn't come with any kind of instructions. I know this is a common mod so someone can probably give me some instructions. I included a link to show exactly what I got. http://s1047.photobucket.com/user/jeramie_licklider/media/20130430_144759.jpg.html?sort=3&o=0 Quote
possum Posted April 30, 2013 Report Posted April 30, 2013 Just replace the stock adjuster on the pressure plate with the pancake style you just bought. Same rod and ball stays in the case. Quote
possum Posted April 30, 2013 Report Posted April 30, 2013 The 3" threaded rod is a longer extra one to use if you need more adjustment. Just use the one on the bearing already. Bolt it up as it sits and adjust and go. Quote
jeramie Posted April 30, 2013 Author Report Posted April 30, 2013 Ok thanks. Thats what I thought. Should the clutch actuator arm go in nice and easy or is it a pain in the ass? Its not wantin to go in for me. Quote
possum Posted April 30, 2013 Report Posted April 30, 2013 Sometimes its a snug fit. Clean it and grease it. Quote

jeramie Posted April 30, 2013 Author Report Posted April 30, 2013 I'm assuming you tightened everything down before you installed the arm? You can't install the arm first? I haven't put anything back together yet. I gotta order a new ball and rod Quote

jeramie Posted April 30, 2013 Author Report Posted April 30, 2013 Cleaned, greased, no luck. It don't want to go in at all. Is there a certain position it needs to be in to slide in correctly (engaged or disengaged position)? Quote
jeramie Posted April 30, 2013 Author Report Posted April 30, 2013 After further inspection, I stuck a magnet down in the actuator hole and came out with a chunk of metal abou a qharter inch wide and an eighth inch long. I believe it may be part of the push rod? Maybe it mushroomed then broke off? Quote
jeramie Posted April 30, 2013 Author Report Posted April 30, 2013 The original actuator seems to be intact. Man I'm havin a hell of a time with this though. I got the actuator in, put the rod and ball in, now I'm confused again. So does the clutch basket go on, then the pancake bearing or what? I'm very mechanically inclined but I don't have the book for this bike to see any schematics. Quote
oldskool Posted May 1, 2013 Report Posted May 1, 2013 If I remember right, after clutch plates put the tophat looking part in,then washer, bearing, washer, pressure plate, then adjuster rod and nut Quote
