trpkkd Posted February 24, 2013 Report Posted February 24, 2013 I was wondering how much compression i could get away with running on 93 octane? I tested both cylinders today and got just a touch over 120 on both. I want to get an adjustable timing plate but still want to be able to run on 93 octane that's all I can get in my town. Quote
trpkkd Posted February 25, 2013 Author Report Posted February 25, 2013 How much does your compression go up when you advance the timing or does it vary from engine to engine? Quote
sheerider11 Posted February 25, 2013 Report Posted February 25, 2013 How much does your compression go up when you advance the timing or does it vary from engine to engine? Your comp doesn't change with timing. Only domes/ head and porting change that Quote
Jereme6655 Posted February 25, 2013 Report Posted February 25, 2013 changing timing only changes when the spark plugs will fire based on the rotation of the crankshaft (in relation to where the magnets on the flywheel will cross under the pickup) Quote
trickedcarbine Posted February 25, 2013 Report Posted February 25, 2013 Although, You can use octane to control detonation on motors with excessive timing. For instance, a buddy of mine uses a programmer on his street bike with multiple timing curves. Most are fine for pump fuel as the motor it self is internally stock. But there is a map on there that does need race fuel to keep the motor both detonation free and cooler. Quote
