Pipe extension off the carb or not?

I have heard some debate over this. Some guys say just install the pod filter right to the carb. Others say to have at least a 6" pipe extension then filter.

I would think the pipe extension will help straighten out the air flow before the carb.

Tried that once.....adds a bog to the motor. Don't do it.

 

Having said that....Mulll engineering sells a kit with some tapered tubes that they claim work. But straight ones kill the intake pulse. You want filters as close to the carbs as you can on a 2-stroke.

I recall that Toomey recommends at least 3 inches from bell to filter. Straight pods on the bells work just fine.

I would definitely steer clear of the intake extensions unless you need them to get the filters to clear pipes or something. They to add a hesitation.
