ric-ross1 Posted January 6, 2013 Report Posted January 6, 2013 How can i tell if i have an overide transmission curiosity and why does the connecting rod break where it mounts to the crank?? lubrication?? Quote
Jereme6655 Posted January 7, 2013 Report Posted January 7, 2013 well what mods does your bike have that you KNOW about. odds of having a override are way small if your bike is not a drag bike. Usually the cranks that break the connecting rod near the big end is due to either poor manufacturing (on mostly aftermarket cranks) abuse, neglect, and SOMETIMES......just plain bad luck. Quote
ric-ross1 Posted January 7, 2013 Author Report Posted January 7, 2013 the guy that sold me the frame with the blown motor said he raced the bike all the time and it didnt come with anything really but frame, blown motor, radiator and gas tank lol. I was wondering because the crank that came with the blown motor broke the same thing just on the other side so i got a used one for cheap and it let go yesturday smh. Quote
dajogejr Posted January 7, 2013 Report Posted January 7, 2013 Pull the shift drum out and post a few pictures. They are cut and welded, and are not pretty to look at. Quote
ric-ross1 Posted January 8, 2013 Author Report Posted January 8, 2013 haha mine looks very nice and dark dont see any welds or nothing lol. Quote
dajogejr Posted January 8, 2013 Report Posted January 8, 2013 Take a bunch of different pics of the drum and the gears. Its possible its not an override but it could be back cut... Or have other mods Sent from my Nexus 10 using Tapatalk 2 Quote
ric-ross1 Posted January 8, 2013 Author Report Posted January 8, 2013 alright i will take some tomorrow after work. Quote
crazycracker520 Posted January 8, 2013 Report Posted January 8, 2013 Curious myself! Never seen pics of backcut gears. crazycracker Quote
Starwriter Posted January 8, 2013 Report Posted January 8, 2013 On a stock trans, all the gears except 1st gear, have 3 dogs going into 6 dogs. The 1st step to ANY trans mod is to mill out 3 of the 6 dogs on those gears. So, if you have a bunch of gears with 6 dogs, you have a stock trans. Quote

I just figured looking at a drum is the best/easiest "eyeball" tell tale of an override... That...and if you say dog, and he went looking for a leash...LOL. Quote
