Banshee died after rebuild

New to the forum and new to the banshee. I just had my motor completely rebuilt top and bottom. Once i had the motor back in and ready to go i started her up and she was running great. Put it through a heat cycle let it cool and started the next cycle. It was running good then sounded like it was starting to died, all of the sudden it started making a nasty clunking noise and died. Didnt try to kick it again because it didnt sound good at all and the motor was just rebuilt :( Now if i slowly push the kick start down slowly with my hand all i get is a clunking noise. i will try and add a video of the noise. Thanks for your help!

Sounds like a piston flopping around in there to me. I would pull the head off and take a look like RRL said. Throw that boost bottle away while you are at it!

That is a good point. Your flywheel could have fell off maybe you forgot to tighten the nut? I just like seeing people do more work than needed. :whistling:

Thanks Yamaha Driver for reposting my video!

Builder- Boost bottles are no good? could this cause me problems down the road? or just not worth the money?

32:1 pre-mix and a local builder did the rebuild for me. He said he would warranty the motor if something didnt work correctly but not the crank or pistons because i supplied them and he didn't purchase them (my fault i guess). He said it could be in the tranny? There were a bunch of metal shavings in the tranny oil and they were stuck to the magnetic drain plug and it was pretty dark ,all fluids were fresh as it was just rebuilt and the thing didnt run long at all. I pulled off the right side cover and everything looked good. I guess ill move onto the other side and then move to top end. Oh yea i removed the exhaust to take the side cover off and looked into the exhaust port and slowly kicked the motor over with my hand and the piston was moving up and down and i didnt see anything abnormal but you can only see so much. Ill just have to get the top end off.

With the busy holiday i didnt have much time to mess with the shee. The builder who rebuilt it said bring it back to him and he will take care of it. Hopefully the right way this time and free of charge!!! I will let you guys know as soon as i hear back from him. been about a week and havent heard anything yet.

  • 3 weeks later...

turns out the flywheel nut came lose and sheared the key. said he is putting t back together and i should have it soon. im just concerned with all the meal shavings that were in the transmission oil, would that all have came from the sheared key? wouldnt you have to split the cases and clean it all out?

Nope......the flywheel is not immersed in trans oil. It sits behind the left side cover and spins around the stator and pickup......does not come anywhere near the oil. If their actually IS shavings from your sheared flywheel key then I'd have to scratch my head and tell you that you have some serious issues other than just a loose flywheel Hahaha

X2. Metal shavings in the trans from a sheared flywheel key would be the equivalent of getting a girl prego by shooting a load down her throat.

However, I would be very skeptical of a build that had metal shavings in the trans after just 1 heat cycle. As far as the flywheel, this "builder" sounds like a real flake if he forgot to tighten the nut. What else did he forget?
