87BRBanshee Posted September 26, 2012 Report Posted September 26, 2012 Ok so this winter I want to do a ported 4mil setup. I want parts that will last and perform good. What all am I going to need for a Ported 4Mil, besides a new crank, pistons, and rods? What Crank should I get, I hear Hot rods is pretty good. Should I stick with stock cases? What about my transmission? Will i need to change it or will stock be fine? I plan to get a different clutch as well, just not sure what to get. Possibly a Hinson or If there is something just as good for cheaper I'd like that. I have stock cyls. Now with 65mm bore's, would these be worth porting? Who should I send my cylinders to for porting? What about case porting? What is it and is it necessary? This will be my first build and I would like it to be done right but i don’t want to break the bank, so any help or input would be appreciated. Thanks! Quote
special06shee Posted September 26, 2012 Report Posted September 26, 2012 (edited) youll need a head(i like noss), domes for 4mil, 4mil crank(i like hot rods), good clutch, depending on the syle of port work you might need bigger carbs, intakes,pods.. as far as the trans goes it depends on what your using the bike for..if its a drag bike then youll want an override, if its a play bike, stock trans should be fine as long as its in good working order! complete gasket and seal set! depending on what pipes you have now you might need to upgrade for full potental! im sure im missing some stuff.. your best bet is to call a reputable builder and go into great deal on what you will be doing with the bike and they will take it from there!! i had fast racing do a 4mil stock cylinder that i liked, now im currently running a 421 cub that redline did witch i love!! i have had GREAT dealings with both! a buddy of mine is running a 4mil stock cyl. that was done by herrs and that thing hauls the mail as well!! good luck Edited September 26, 2012 by special06shee Quote

I ride mostly trails but do some friendly racing and I plan to start taking it to Silver Lake Sand Dunes. I might get a set of 28 pwk's. i believe those should work fine (based on what another member told me) Quote
old put-put Posted September 26, 2012 Report Posted September 26, 2012 Call a site sponser like HJR and they will guide you in the right direction and let you know what you will need to get you set up the way you want it , and answer your questions when you run into problems. You can use whoever you feel comfortable with, I have personal experience with HJR and am very pleased with Kevins work. Quote
