Recommended Posts

Ok here's a pic of my plug chop haven't been rode since winter. Broke left cylinder plug in vice trying to chop threads o well. Anyway left cylinder looks on, nice line on the bottom. Right cylinder has no color at base and weird color near tip. 6345cd1c-13bf-da2d.jpg

not sure on 900 el... somewhere around that i believe .. im in kansas city mo... running 35 airstrikers, motor is in sig, stock stroke aggressive dune port stock cylinder. im running a 152 main.. i cleaned my carbs and sync them using jeff's carb tool... maybe the right cylinder main was plugged? idk its a bit too late here to fire the bike up again but ill get around to it tomorrow.. ill post back results... im running 9s because thats what jeff recommended.. motor is pretty much fresh only 4 tanks ran threw it, brand new hot rods crank... i did install a billet intake and new carbs this is my first plug chop since i installed them, i used yamahabond on the boots so should be ok on leaks... i need to get around to making a leak down tester, but i did do the old carb cleaner spray on the carb boots and intake while the bike was running no change in idle.

ran like a mad ape till 6th about had it revved out but started cutting up a little pulled in clutch and killed it, pulled plugs and chopped them... i cleaned carbs resync them and ill try it again tomorrow. if i get the same result im headed to the hardware store to put together a leakdown tester.. then up the mains maybe to a 160.

Same result. Tore everything off pipes carbs. Did leakdown test all good held 5-6 psi for good 5 mins or so. Threw in 160 mains needle on middle clip, ran a plug chop its deff lean. I'll have to run out and get some more main jets tomorrow.

Ok nailed it it's a spark problem either plug/ wire or coil. These plugs are with a 160main then 170 main. Notice how the problem moves from right plug to left. I swapped plug wires and problem moved to other cylinder. So now I need to buy a new coil plugs and wires.

caps are new.. i replaced them when i rebuild the bike. bike has about 4 tanks threw it since rebuild.. its had a known spark problem, but thought i a had it fixed . the only thing old is the coil and wires. it has spark at idle but seems to start cutting up around 1/2- full throttle. its deff not a jetting issue ive covered all the bases with that.

so i choped the end of the wire and replaced the boot... took it for a spin down the road seems to pull a lot better, just so happens found a coil for sale last night on craigslist went and picked it up just to see if its really the coil. this morning i replaced the coil with the one i bought and it pulls a hell of a lot better, i know im now way rich with the 170 main and needle on middle clip .. bike doesnt rip like i did with the 160s but it pulls with no cutting out what so ever and revs all the way out in 6th.. Ill throw the 160s back in and do another plug chop and post up results.. thanks ..
