coryv4 Posted April 11, 2012 Report Posted April 11, 2012 me and my brother want to start doing small stuff on 2 strokes and some 4 strokes depending on what they are. we want to do small stuff that wouldnt be worth taking to the dealer thats going to charge 70 an hour and 4 hours of work or stuff people cant afford to have a dealer do but we have one problem and that is prices. can you guys give me some help on figuring out pricing for things i dont want to charge by the hour i want to charge by the work. if you guys would be kinda enough to put a reasonable price on the stuff listed below. remember im charging for job not hour. single cylinder top end - twin top end - triple top end - clutch replacement - seals - bearings - tuning/re jetting - welding cracks in frames - lightening frames - the list above also would include the option of breaking in for an additional fee but what could the price on that be? ticktock Posted April 11, 2012 Report Posted April 11, 2012 single cylinder top end - 100 - 150 + parts depends on model. 250 for a 4 stroke, 450R's only twin top end - 150 flat triple top end - snowmachine? depends on the year, 2000 or new 400 clutch replacement - 100 seals - Full engine seals? 200 banshee 300 anything else 2stroke only. bearings - 50 bucks for rearend, fronts tuning/re jetting - If I have have a place I could go out in the backyard to run a plug chop 100 bucks, with carb cleaning, rejetting, syncing + jets price welding cracks in frames - wouldn't touch lightening frames - Wouldnt do this one either, too much can go wrong Thats what I would charge if i was doing flatrate work. it also depends on how much I like the person im doing the job for. lol Adam Quote
bluebanshee98 Posted April 11, 2012 Report Posted April 11, 2012 even if you do charge by the hr at half the rate the dealership does they will be making out better then what they would have. its really up to you... personally i would hook them up the first time (depending on person) with a great deal and let them know any other job after that would be x amount ( your choice and they still save $ over the dealership) this way they have some connection with you and know you do good work. first deal is great and 2nd and on is good. usually this approach will have them coming back to you to do other jobs out of lazyness or lack of knowledge. come on we all know working on bikes is fun when you know what your doing i tuned my neighbors banshee for free but i told him i get the first ride on it though to make sure its dialed in correct. every time i touch the bike it gets better.... man he had a dirty filter and idk wtf happened to one of his plugs. person who had it before him didnt have a clue thats for sure Quote
Larry's Shee Posted April 11, 2012 Report Posted April 11, 2012 I like that idea of first time hook. Like quote 40 and only charge 30 when they pick it up. Or throw in little free-bee like lube chain or throttle cable. Unless you can find some kind of blue book on what it takes time wise to do a job you're still going to have to wing it. I bid a job of swapping a 660 raptor frame for 300, 350 if lots of rusted bolts and the guy still hasn't bit. Told my son something about waiting till spring?? WTF, that was over a month ago. I'm not doing anything any ways, just something to do ya know. Good luck Quote
bluebanshee98 Posted April 11, 2012 Report Posted April 11, 2012 If your not sure how long the job would take call the dealership and ask then cut it in half or something at your rate Quote
