just joined this site, first time posting in a forum. heres the deal, i picked up an 01 banshee. Low compression so I decided to put in a fresh top end. Bored .80 w weisco. It has procircuit exhaust, vforce3 reeds, boost bottle, stock box with k&n w no top, stock carbs w tors eliminated and idle screws. before start up on new top end i check the jets, they were stock main 200, 25 pilot. Changed main to 310, 27.5 pilot here in va at sealevel. Bike fired up 2nd kick and seemed super rich w smoke and up down up down idle and generally choppy until 3/4 throttle. Drove it several times up and down the street, and the left cylinder sounded as it was bogging or cutting out. Came to a stop and it cut out completely i believe from being so rich and would not start even after a few days. Come to find out the guy i bought from had the slides in backwards. I switched them and the bike still wont fire. Heres what ive done since, new plugs, checked spark..its there on both but seems maybe weak, gas is getting to carbs and they are clean, carbs are synced by eye, cross over tube is in place, compression is 145 on each cylinder, reeds are good, fresh gas 32/1. Still won't start, any suggestions?

Thanks, i will try and figure out how to check the pick up coil gap, i really dont know much when it comes to electrical. And the caps do look pretty nasty inside as well. Do these fail often, curious because it did start up easy the first few runs. Carb crossover tube is in place, Bowls are on the proper carbs, float needles should be free..messed with them the other day.

to set the pickup gap is easy....pull the flywheel cover from the side of the motor.......inside you will see the flywheel and the "pick-up" that is held on by 2 little screws and has 2 wires coming from it. it will be monitoring the flywheel and getting input from the magnets that are on the flywheels to let the ignition system know when to fire the spark. spin the flywheel by hand and you should see the little nubs on the flywheel pass really close to the pickup. The gap between the nubs and the pickup should be set to a very close tolerance....its early and i haven't had my coffee yet.....i believe its .018 that its supposed to be. most people will use a business card between the flywheel and the pickup.

Gotcha, thank you. I just ordered flywheel puller just to have and check things out and some new plug caps since they are cheap. I will be checking all this in a few days when parts come in. Since there is weak spark on both sides visually, can that eliminate either the stator and/or cdi or could they still be culprits? Like I said im not learned on electronics yet, but when i do this work im gonna have my friend bring his ohmeter and help check some of this stuff

alright fellas, i found that the problem is fuel related. I sprayed starting fluid into the carbs and it fired right up and died as soon as it burned. The carbs have been cleaned many times. I have them sitting here in front of me now to go through them once again. Fuel is getting to both of the bowls. Mains and pilots are new and clean. Float height is set to 21mm no gasket. What could be causing the fuel to not make it to the cylinders, vforce3 reeds check out fine visually. Any suggestions?

Make sure bowls are on correct crb, slide cutaway (angle) faces air cleaner. When you get new plug boots trim wire 1/4", add dielectric grease. Clean any rust off stator poles and nubs on flywheel when you have it apart.

whats up ironmike, i live in woodbridge. bowls are on the correct carbs, bb on choke side, slide cutouts are towards the filter, choke tube is in place, has fresh 93gas 32/1 at 3/4tank, pilot is clean, float height set, carbs are synced but as im writing this i realized i synced them with the idle screw in, i will screw them out and let slides drop all the way down and re sync. i will trim back wire and put new boots when they get in, also clean up contact on stator. like i said a shot of starting fluid and started right up, i will be going over and rechecking everything tomorrow. if you guys have anything else that u think i should check let me know. Thanks
