werner Posted December 31, 2011 Report Posted December 31, 2011 One of my stay mounts doesn't line up with the threads and it started to strip. Can I just remove these two underneath mounts? Isn't it just for anti-vibration? Quote

Isn't it just for anti-vibration? The lower mounts are there to prevent the engine from twisting in the frame. You can just loosen up the two 14mm bolts that hold the lower mounts to the frame up in front of the engine, then tighten up your lower engine mounts, then tighten the two bolts up front. Loosen the two bolts that go front to back, not the ones that go left-right. - Jared Quote
DwnSouth Posted January 1, 2012 Report Posted January 1, 2012 When I lightened my frame I just cut them completely off. Only reason , I've seen many other bikes runnin without them. Well.... twist or no twist too late now! Quote
DwnSouth Posted January 2, 2012 Report Posted January 2, 2012 You can kinda see In this pic... No mounts underneath at all! Hope the motor stays on! Quote
kthurm Posted January 2, 2012 Report Posted January 2, 2012 If u have a lot of motor I've seen chains being thrown off because they didn't have bottom mounts, because of the motor twisting Quote
badassbanshee479 Posted January 2, 2012 Report Posted January 2, 2012 You can kinda see In this pic... No mounts underneath at all! Hope the motor stays on! if your gonna run it like that, at least get another set of the half moon washers that go on the engine mounts between the chassis and motor, run two on the front mount and two on the rear mount.... this will take out alot of engine twist, I would also suggest ya add a engine stay from the frame above the chain to the cases under the stator cover. this will keep you from throwing a chain Quote
triplethreat Posted January 2, 2012 Report Posted January 2, 2012 those stays are there for a reason. yamaha didn't just put random crap on the bike. you may have bent one from hitting something....make sure they're both the same length. as far as anit-vibe...the front and rear have bushings in the case that keep vibration down, these mounts bolt directly to the case and frame so they have rubber in 'em. Coupelx Posted January 2, 2012 Report Posted January 2, 2012 You can kinda see In this pic... No mounts underneath at all! Hope the motor stays on! and those that run without them run a strut or a support on the left side too. Quote
BigRed350x Posted January 2, 2012 Report Posted January 2, 2012 On frames I've done in the past, we cut them and re-weld them to the frame itself for solid-mount applications. Quote

Yamaha does put alot of random crap on the frames!! That's how we are able to cut so much off! Lol. Bigred I have seen people cut them and weld them on the side rails of the frame across the bottom to catch the mounts underneath. It was just a weight thing for me and after seeing so many people locally run without them I decided to whack them off. The side strut idea I'd like to see... I haven't had a problem with the chain or twist as of now but as you make more power I'm sure that could possibly be an issue. If anyone has a pic of what you all are talking about I'd like to check it out. If it slings the chain just hope the gravy don't spill out! Quote
