escobar Posted December 11, 2011 Report Posted December 11, 2011 I just did a rebuild on both carbs of a 1998 banshee and did the tors elimination kit and it started right up first kick but was smoking really bad and had no power. In the book it says premix 20:1 but that seems a bit rich..im running the yamalube oil, I did a google search and found some ppl were running 40:1, 32:1, 23:1...im confused as to what the mixture is to run. Is this why it was smoking so bad? Due to it running really rich? It wont start now...think its flooded. I still need to adjust the screws on the carb I know but I want the mixture right. thanks Quote
HIDEF Posted December 11, 2011 Report Posted December 11, 2011 when i did a search on this site about ratios and types of oils i found alot of people mixing 32:1 BUT some do run 20:1 and some 40:1. i personally run 32:1 without much smoke. any more oil than that it starts fouling my plugs but i do a lot of trail riding. if you type (premix ratio) in the search box there is a post named Official 2 stroke oil mix preference that may help you Quote
escobar Posted December 11, 2011 Author Report Posted December 11, 2011 thanks, I will definatley try to run 32-40:1 and see how that helps. It just wont start now, the plugs look brand new so I dont think they are fouled. Is there any damage it can do by running to much oil?? Quote

Is there any damage it can do by running to much oil?? i dont believe that anything could be damaged using to much pre mix oil besides fowling plugs but if you dont put enough you will have huge problems. what color was the smoke and did you look at the condition of the transmission oil and coolant to make sure you dont have gasket or o ring leaking. escobar Posted December 12, 2011 Author Report Posted December 12, 2011 the smoke was white/blueish and it was billowing out haha. I replaced the gasket on the crank and oil so it is good there. I took the plugs out and they were wet so I guess it just got flooded. Quote

escobar Posted December 12, 2011 Author Report Posted December 12, 2011 thanks, i think it is just way to rich and the adjustment screws are off. Hopefully it starts again. Quote
escobar Posted December 13, 2011 Author Report Posted December 13, 2011 I think my slides are installed wrong, gonna check them and see. Hopefully thats what it is Quote
Larry's Shee Posted December 13, 2011 Report Posted December 13, 2011 (edited) Double check float level too. Brass washer under main jet? Slosh baffel in? Edited December 13, 2011 by Larry's Shee Quote
escobar Posted December 13, 2011 Author Report Posted December 13, 2011 good idea, only thing could be is the float level not perfect. That will be next after I swap the slides. Quote
escobar Posted December 13, 2011 Author Report Posted December 13, 2011 turns out the slides were in right, with the curved edge pointed toward the back of the bike. It is still running like garbage though. It seems like it is not getting enough air, I have the screws turned out 2x on each carb and both of them sychd perfect with the cable. Any ideas? Quote
escobar Posted December 14, 2011 Author Report Posted December 14, 2011 Another question, would jetting make this much of a difference? I rebuilt the carbs with the kit and just used the supplied jets which I assume are oem or close. All I have is a K & N filter. Quote
Bkm2006 Posted December 14, 2011 Report Posted December 14, 2011 Lid removed? Stock jets are 200 I think. Quote
escobar Posted December 14, 2011 Author Report Posted December 14, 2011 (edited) stock jets are 200. I have the top of the airbox still, is this something I should run without? What jet sizes are you guys running? Its about 30-60 degrees here in NC, I have just the K n N filter. Edited December 14, 2011 by escobar Quote
Bkm2006 Posted December 14, 2011 Report Posted December 14, 2011 you would have to order a proflow adaptor and k&n hit up one the the site sponsors like jeff at fast.. they are cheap and makes the bike run alot better.. you will need to up your main jet though.. what pipes you running? with t5s and no lid i was running a 290 main... hows your plugs look? do a plug chop.
