swhitey917 Posted December 3, 2011 Report Posted December 3, 2011 Welcome to BHQ, nice find on that bike and good luck. My advice to you would do a plug chop and check your jets first thing to make sure the previous owner wasnt running it to lean. All you need it have a nice new bike with a blown motor in your garage . Quote
rocky_mtn_yamaha Posted December 3, 2011 Report Posted December 3, 2011 (edited) All you need it have a nice new bike with a blown motor in your garage . Precisely the position I find myself in. Really sucks, but at least I'm into it $500 less than he is...lol Edited December 3, 2011 by rocky_mtn_yamaha Quote

Jereme6655 Posted December 4, 2011 Report Posted December 4, 2011 well.....that's rebuild levels.......anything under 100 is considered to be low to where you need to rebuild. Should be up in the area of 125 each side. Also a plug chop is to check to see whether your jetted correctly.....warm up bike...shut bike off and put in BRAND NEW spark plugs.....start quad and instantly go 1-5gear holidng the throttle wide open the entire time. When you hit the top of 5th gear.....pull in clutch and shut motor off and coast to a stop. Then install old plugs and take new plugs home with you.....cut off the threads and look to see color of burn ring.....should be like a milk choclate - tan color if jetted correct. darker = richer lighter = leaner. Larry's Shee Posted December 4, 2011 Report Posted December 4, 2011 Have to take into consideration he is at 4200 ft. If his neighbor is at 100, he might be ok, maybe little low. One of the site sponsers had a chart showing drop with rise in elevation. If someone doesn't chime in, maybe call one of the site sponsers, tell them your elevation, they'll let you know where you're at. Ditch the boost bottle, either get factory tube or just plug them up. It will run fine without a crossover. Be very careful about ANY air leaks. BTW, Welcome to BHQ !! Learn all about your machine by reading lots of threads, use the search, then ask questions. Quote
Rebel rouiser Posted December 4, 2011 Report Posted December 4, 2011 Nice bike man, looks like you got a pretty good deal. Quote
