muggzy Posted November 12, 2011 Report Posted November 12, 2011 (edited) Hey I could use some advice, I rebuilt my Banshee when I got it over 3 years ago and have been riding like this since. The clutch lever is really difficult to pull in and always has been. At the time I rebuilt it, I was totally unfamiliar with Banshees and ordered the parts an acquaintance recommended (including clutch) I can't even remember if I put in new springs or not. Anyway, I let a friend ride my bike last weekend and he was shocked at how tight the lever was, complained his hand was sore after just 5 min. I told him to quit crying and grow some muscles. But after riding all day today and thinking about it while riding, I gotta admit, the damn thing is really tight. Relative to the brake lever, it's ridiculous. So I'm wondering, could it just be the clutch springs are just way too stiff? What spings should I buy to try and lighten the lever? Edited November 12, 2011 by muggzy Quote
locogato11283 Posted November 12, 2011 Report Posted November 12, 2011 When is the last time you replaced the clutch cable? How about lubed it? Bottom line is that they do wear inside the sleeve and dirty and crap can get in there. An easy thing to try is to tip the bike up and spray some WD-40 or other lubricant in and pull the clutch in and let it out a bunch of times. See if that loosens it up a little. If not, it may be time to replace the clutch cable. They're about $15 or so. Quote
greenskin77 Posted November 12, 2011 Report Posted November 12, 2011 i rode mine like that for a year sometimes it was hard and other times it was lose . i replaced everthing and nothing helped i thought it was normal.. but after researching it and alomst getting a hydrolic clutch wich i didnt want to do. i read that ere is a bearing in the top part of the case were your prech goes into... mine was so bad that it as rust solid the bearing were jamming up or not spinning ich made it so tight.. well i had to split the case to get mine out it was a mess.. but anyhow cheack that bearing... just unhok your cable at t case and use parin of channle locks and see if u can move he perch back in forth. Thanks, I'm skeptical that it's the cable, been this way for 3+ yrs and I'm pretty sure I lubed it sometime since I rebuilt the bike but I'm gonna go out and try the WD40 right now. It's def not something I remember to do routinely. If it helps at all I'll replace the cable, but it's been this way since day 1 for me. ...there is a bearing in the top part of the case were your prech goes into... mine was so bad that it as rust solid the bearing were jamming up or not spinning ich made it so tight.. ... I'm sure it's not the perch bearing. I replaced every single bearing and seal in the engine when I redid it and there's not a spot of rust anywhere but thanks for the thought. SLOPOKE21 Posted November 21, 2011 Report Posted November 21, 2011 It would really help if you knew what parts were in there. Quote
