My mates banshee has a problem, when you ride it it makes a softish backfire sound now and then(sometimes now and then, sometimes alot, and while making the sound the bikes power is not what it should be), but the sound is way louder when you remove the seat and airbox cover, so thought it was a reed problem causing to backfire through the carbs. Took out the reeds and tested them, they leaked a bit so replaced them all. Put everything back together and tested the bike, but the same sound is still there. The bike never used to do this, just started 2 rides ago. Any ideas on whats wrong? Or what to check next? Thanx Edited October 19, 2011 by RavenShield Quote

jlsparky7 Posted October 20, 2011 Report Posted October 20, 2011 Definitely leaning out or could be moisture if the air filter is wet.... Check for intake and exhaust leaks as well as a leak down test. Quote

Jereme6655 Posted October 20, 2011 Report Posted October 20, 2011 not necissarily.......you wont always hear the air leak over the pipes.....and it doesn't take a big leak to lean you out enough to blow up a motor. i did a leak-down test when i assembled my motor (while it was still out of the frame) and i had an air leak that was pretty decent size......grabbed some soapy water and found it was a spark plug that was leaking.......i didn't even HEAR it leak.....but holy shit when you got the soapy water on there you knew where it was leaking..... I had this very same problem on my last build. What did you use to keep it from leaking around the spark plug? Quote
