2003 banshee Posted October 4, 2011 Report Posted October 4, 2011 I've had my banshee for a couple a months and its been in and out of the shop with carb trouble well now the carbs are good but that last time i took it riding i was trying to race and it would downshift on its own. i have have gone throuqh all 6 gears on the street and hard pack with the knobbies and it will run perfect without down shifting. but as soon as i hit the sand with my paddles it runs good for a little then starts down shifting. its down shifted from 2nd to 1st 3rd to 1st 5th to fourth. and as soon as i have speed and wanna go up steep hills in the dunes and say im in 3rd gear as soon as it gets up ward it just down shifts to 1st please let me know if you guys have an idea of what it can be. i just wanna be able to ride my banshee with out having problems. 96 banshee 65mm pistons ported milled head v force stock carbs 6 in k&n pod filters 4 mill hot rod crank 22x11x8 10 paddle tripple buffed haulers Quote
badassbanshee479 Posted October 4, 2011 Report Posted October 4, 2011 sounds like the shift star detente spring is broken or the shift shaft eccentric is not adjusted correctly.... do you own a clymers manual? if ya dont i would recommend buying one or downloading it. it will walk ya threw takin your bike apart and tell ya how to adjust things and or find the broken parts. Jereme6655 Posted October 4, 2011 Report Posted October 4, 2011 wonder if the shift star is popping the shift arm off and jumping back on ..... Quote
andrew3160 Posted October 4, 2011 Report Posted October 4, 2011 wonder if the shift star is popping the shift arm off and jumping back on ..... Not sure this is possible seeing as the clutch basket and gear are some what covering the shift star. Sounds like the shift spring is wore out or the shift shaft is not adjusted correctly. If it is not perfectly centered, it can play a lot of games with you. Quote

andrew3160 Posted October 5, 2011 Report Posted October 5, 2011 F.A.S.T sells the stock shift shafts that he modifies as well as all the other components. I have his modified shift shaft, ez spring, and shift star and my bike shifts like a dream. Quote
TIM LUTZ Posted October 6, 2011 Report Posted October 6, 2011 While you are in there take a good look at the shift forks also. Quote
andrew3160 Posted October 6, 2011 Report Posted October 6, 2011 You shouldn't need to split cases to replace the items talked about unless you want to look at your shift drum and forks like Tim mentioned. Quote
