ban99shee Posted October 2, 2011 Report Posted October 2, 2011 Hello! Just bought a brand new cheetah cub 421 cylinder. My problem is the engine failed a pressure test. I'm positive it's leaking from the base gasket. The front cylinder nuts do not have a large enough area to seat properly....nor do they have enough room for a tool. The sides of the original castle nuts actually binded on the cylinder before being properly seating. The oem nuts still were about 1/16" above the cylinder, but were tight because of clearance. So instead of using a correct castle nut..i used a regular style nut. But...the material/cylinder near the nut is still so close you can's get a proper torque setting. A open-end wrench will not even fit on 3 out of 4 nuts on the front. The wrench itself binds on the cylinder before the nut is actually tight. The rears are fine and have plenty of clearance and show no leaking. I even cut some wrenchs to fit...but they have to be cut so thin...they keep breaking. I thought I could dremel a small amount of the cylinder for clearance, but want to call trinity first to make sure. Anybody ever have this problem? Hope this made some sense!! Right now I'm pretty upset because we have a trip planned very soon..which always makes it worse! But this kit had no instructions, no hardware...according to trinity it's a "bolt on kit". I plan to call them but it's the weekend. Any help would be appreciated. Quote
NYUK Posted October 2, 2011 Report Posted October 2, 2011 fast or m+m sell the 2 10mm arp nuts you need to be able to tighten the 2 center nuts down.i have done it with stock nuts, but it takes a ground down 12 mm box wrench to get in there. Quote
lms1977 Posted October 2, 2011 Report Posted October 2, 2011 You need the 10mm nuts and a thin wrench Quote
RadarRacing Posted October 2, 2011 Report Posted October 2, 2011 (edited) I always clearance them by using a dremel with a fine carbide bit and taking a little material away from the cylinder right next to the nuts/studs. There's no problem with doing that and I also have a thin 12mm wrench. Glad to see you are doing a pressure check , you woulda just had problems. Always check your squish too on any build regardless of builder/ parts supplier. Edited October 2, 2011 by RadarRacing Quote
ban99shee Posted October 2, 2011 Author Report Posted October 2, 2011 thanks for the help guys! I'm pretty upset w/trinity about this. It seems like a well known problem considering other stores stock parts to fix it. I ordered these in person from trinity and asked many times if I was receiving everything I needed for this to work. I understand the world of building toys is not perfect...but this is a no brainer. Quote

J-Madd Posted October 4, 2011 Report Posted October 4, 2011 Every casting is different. I have some that I can use non-flange 12 mm nuts on, some that I can use oem nuts on, and 1 that I HAVE to use the 10mm arp nuts on AND a ground down wrench. Quote
BigRed350x Posted October 4, 2011 Report Posted October 4, 2011 Get a twister cylinder... problem solved. Quote
