Try your compression test again.......install the compression tester then turn the ignition OFF and then hold the throttle WIDE OPEN.....and kick until the needle stops climbing.

while most banshees will still run around 80-90 psi......they usually have to be pull started to get enough piston speed to make the needed compression for igniton

compression test was done cold. old water pump was in perfect shape, as well as the gear. replaced the w/p anyways. again with the top hose off and the motor running and me pouring water into the radiator it circulates thru the motor as fast as i can pour it. if i pull the head will i be able to tell if i blew a head gasket?

You might be able to see damage from the fire ring to a cooling jacket.

Also check the head for warpage.

The Clymers Manual will help you trouble shoot this.

alright tore it down last night. everything looked great. i can still see cross hatching on the cylinder. pistons looked good. havent checked the head for warpage. what i can tell is it looks like the left cylinder was leaking past the gasket into one of the cooling jackets. So im crossing my fingers thats it. there was also a little damage to the dome from a previous piston failure. If i do replace the head what should i go with? just a stock or is it cheap enough to go with aftermarket. I keep reading about coolheads but then 100 people claiming they dont do squat. and weres the cheapest place to get a top end kit? anyone recommend a brand? wiesco maybe?

thanks guys

site sponsor!! Our site sponsors here rebuild and modify and do work on these bikes in their sleep. I had Jeff at FAST do mine.....i also hear good things about HJR. Go with Wiseco Pro-lites. don't skimp on your rebuild or your bike will skimp on you.

cool heads run about $140ish used ($235ish new). While they do a good job at cooling.....they allow you to change the cc size of your domes which can increase or decrease your compression.

you can actually re-surface your head if it is slightly warped.....or you can pick up a used oem one for roughly $30

compression is too low and you may not be boiling water... you may be pushing compression past the head gasket/ O rings if it's a aftermarket head and causing it to shove water out of the radiator.

Also happens when you put the orings in wrong :rotflmao:
