ZedX Posted July 28, 2011 Report Posted July 28, 2011 hi guys i need some help ive had my banshee for a couple months now and the previous owner never road it and had no idea what mods it has. the only mods i know for sure are the external ones you can see. pretty sure its jetted cause it goes through gas like crazy. but just recently its been acting up and only been running on one cylinder but only sometimes, i can tell cause the right header gets hot like a normal exhaust should and the left side only gets warm. how can i fix this? replace the spark plugs? new top end? where do i start?? It sounds like you are maybe new at working on bikes? The good news is the Banshee is easy to work on. If its only running on one cylinder, you need to check for spark and fuel, I would pull the spark plug on the cylinder that isn't running, insert the spark plug into the spark plug wire, and start it up. See a spark? Then you probably have a dirty carb, and the carb needs rebuilding. Carefully take off the suspect carb, and clean per the manual. If these don't fix the prob, get a compression tester, and check that cylinder. Compare the results with the good cylinder. Good luck and keep us posted. Larry's Shee Posted July 28, 2011 Report Posted July 28, 2011 (edited) Have you tried swapping plug wires to see if it changes sides. If you're cleaning one carb might as well do both, one at a time as parts are different. Try trimming 1/4 inch off plug wire, re-install boot. On my son's I pulled flywheel with correct puller (only) cleaned rust off poles of stator and nubs on outside of flywheel to cure one sided miss. Let us know how it goes. BTW, welcome to BHQ !! Maybe also before you start it again pull off the carb on the side u think isnt running and make sure u didnt lose a reed. maybe you can save it before it gets sucked all the way in the motor. AKheathen Posted July 28, 2011 Report Posted July 28, 2011 well, let's keep it simple- first things first- pull the plug. if it looks like shit, put a new one in and try it out for a bit. if that doesn't go away, pull it back out and see what it looks like. it should have some color to it, not white.. check for good blue spark. if you get good blue spark, then move on to fuel/carb. also, could be caused by separated fuel/oil, which will end up pumping more oil and less fuel into one carb/cylinder, which can foul, and lean the cylinder. running lean on a 2-stroke is a sure way to melt a piston. most of the time, many issues are simple mantenance-related, so get familiar with that aspect of your machine, and i wouldn't just dive head-first into the motor over a simple mis-fire without at least looking at simple things and taking some readings. the plugs usually tell a big part of the story when troubleshooting Quote

ZedX Posted September 5, 2011 Author Report Posted September 5, 2011 Did you ever figure out what the problem is? yes it was the spark plugs or the boots not sure but i replaced both and now runs perfect. but now im trying to sell the quad cause i really need the money. i really dont want to but have to, i have a thread in the for sale section check it out. thanks again for all the help and sorry it took forever to reply back been busy and had a lot of other things on my mind.
