dmcblaster Posted June 26, 2011 Report Posted June 26, 2011 (edited) Hello. Just wanting some opinions on my jetting & results. I have a 2002 Banshee all stock except DMC Alien Exhaust Noss Machine Head w/21cc Domes K&N Filter w/ 6 - 1" Vents in Lid Stock Carbs TORS Removed Carbs have been Synced 260 Main Jet Stock Needle on 3rd Position (stock) 30 Pilot 2 Turns Out on Air Screw Elevation is 700-800 Ft. (Missouri) Start Up: Fires up 1st kick and idles smooth. Low to Mid: Seems to take off smooth. Somewhere between 0 to 1/4 throttle (riding easy & holding throttle steady) there seems to be a slight hesitation right before it starts to get into the powerband. I started with the pilot screw 2 turns out. Ive tried turning it to 1 1/2 turns out and seems like it got slightly worse. I then tried 2 1/2 turns and seems to get a tad better so im thinking about trying a 27.5 pilot jet. If I ease on the throttle from 1/8 to 1/2, I dont really notice any hesitation and it pulls strong. Mid to Top: Pulls strong to the top without any noticeable bogging or cutting out. Spark Plugs: I started out with new plugs (NGK BR8ES) I didnt exactly follow the procedure for checking the plugs. I checked the plugs 3 times throughout the day with normal riding in between checks. First check I did a couple short high speed runs.. Pulled plugs and had a light tan color. The second plug check I was just taking it easy trying to keep it in the mid range.. Plugs were still light tan color. The last check I rode it pretty hard (1/2 to 3/4 throttle with 10 second bursts of full throttle) over a couple miles.. Plugs were brown to dark brown but dry. So what do you guys think? Everything sound about right? If you need any more info ill do my best to fill you in. Edited June 26, 2011 by dmcblaster Quote
gotta_goatsfast Posted June 26, 2011 Report Posted June 26, 2011 To properly read a plug you must do a plug chop. Observing the ground strap and edge of the porcelain will tell you if your engine is detonating (black or aluminum specs) if you are oil fouled (hmmm, its wet) or if your heat range is too high or too low (ground strap color should transition at the elbow). The air/fuel ratio requires the plug chop, though. There's a "how to" stuck on the top in the forums. Check it out. Quote
dmcblaster Posted June 27, 2011 Author Report Posted June 27, 2011 Im not seeing the "how to/plug chop" at the top. Does it say anything about a plug chop in the clymers manual? Seems like the plug chops could get expensive. Do you do a plug chop at different throttle positions or just WOT? Quote
dmcblaster Posted July 3, 2011 Author Report Posted July 3, 2011 Anyone else?? I was talking with DMC and mentioned that I was running a 260 main and he said that sounds to lean for my mods. He told me to bump up to a 300 main. 300 sounds like it would be to rich. I told him that my plugs were brown on the insulator but he still insisted on the 300. I might try a 280 and see what happens. Quote

All the banshees I've owned never had the air box though. How is it running as is? Quote
