yamahaman244 Posted June 4, 2011 Report Posted June 4, 2011 hey guys with in the next week or two when i get some money im gunna be doing a top end rebuild on my banshee left cylinder is getting low so im gunna rebuild it so my qustion is its on stock bore now and been freshan up once sence i have gohten it its a 2000 so im thinking i should be able to get it just bored 10 over to get it all nice again but if i remeber seeing some threads when u get a banshee cylinders bored u have to have the ports rechambered? now what does that mean exaclty? any help would be nice guys Quote
jlsparky7 Posted June 4, 2011 Report Posted June 4, 2011 By ports they mean intake and exhaust ports and no you do not have to get them rechambered. You just have to get a bore and hone done on your cylinders. Itll probably need a minimum of 0.0020-0.0030 taken off. Heres a vid to give you a hand if u need it. Quote
mikechief Posted June 4, 2011 Report Posted June 4, 2011 Are you talking about chamfering ? You do have to chamfer the ports after a bore job . The guy doing the bore should do it . After a bore the port openings will have a sharp edge , chamfering is just rounding that edge so your rings don't snag it Quote

lms1977 Posted June 4, 2011 Report Posted June 4, 2011 If you are going to buy the pistons from the guy that is boring the quad the .01 over will be fine, but if you are ordering the pistons somewhere else I would get .020 over to be safe. I bore cyl. for a shop here locally and when he gives me a piston only .01 over sometimes depending on how out of round the old cyl. is etc. There is a spot somewhere that does not clean up usually exhaust port. In a perfect world it would work and most of the time it does but returning parts and waiting for new ones suck. Quote

Larry's Shee Posted June 4, 2011 Report Posted June 4, 2011 Might just have a bad ring. I would have the cylinders and pistons checked closely for clearances and out of round. Cyls need to be checked top, middle, bottom, front to back, side to side = six places. IF you are well within tolerances could just do rings. Quote
yamahaman244 Posted June 4, 2011 Author Report Posted June 4, 2011 Well larry that's what I was thinking cause two weeks ago I had the intanks off and my cylinder looked good still could see some cross hactching on the exahust side.....so thinking maybe its getting out of round or the ring is bad I have way over 250 hrs on this bike and the guy before me I know him he rode it quite abit to Quote
