Huey73 Posted May 13, 2011 Report Posted May 13, 2011 Took my bike out for a quick ride tonight and the right side blew. Haven't taken it apart yet so don't know what went wrong. I've been beating on it for 2 years and the previous owner definitely didn't look after it. I knew this day was coming, but was praying to get through the summer. Not to bad for reliability 11 years of running strong! Quote
CFH87 Posted May 13, 2011 Report Posted May 13, 2011 Not too bad mine just had its first rebuild since it was assembled in 87. Quote
06specialedition Posted May 13, 2011 Report Posted May 13, 2011 11 years...Not bad at all . My brother has a 2000 thats still on the factory top end, barley starting to lose compression. Quote
locogato11283 Posted May 13, 2011 Report Posted May 13, 2011 Nice. I wish I could get past the two year mark without blowing something up. Quote

stacman450 Posted May 13, 2011 Report Posted May 13, 2011 yeah they reliable when mostly stock.. rebuilt my 96 had jsut started loosing comp.. need more power tho.. Quote
Huey73 Posted May 15, 2011 Author Report Posted May 15, 2011 I haven't had a chance to take it apart yet, but I think I damaged it this winter. Went out on the lake with 2 foot snow drifts and it sucked some snow in and the carbs froze wide open. had to keep hitting the kill switch to make it back in. Ran good for 3 trips after. This ride was just to keep it lubed and only lasted for 10 minutes and quit when I pulled in the driveway. I'll know for sure what happened because I've seen a few sleds that sucked snow in, a very specific pattern on the piston. Quote
NickisGod Posted May 16, 2011 Report Posted May 16, 2011 Ya once u step away from stock, your asking for problems. Yamahas orignal design is as reliable as the sun. Big motors=big problems. I'm too stuborn to give up though I just keep dishing out $ Quote
