I know Ive seen it done on here, I tried the search, but cant find it?

I bought a dual pingel, and want to relocate it to the bottom centre of the tank where it is easily accessible when the seat is removed. This I fel will give me equal tube lengths to both carbs. So my question is two fold.

1. Is it a good idea to put it there, or will shit likely gum it up? ( i know nothing is supposed to be in the tank bottom, but I have to be honest, I have never cleaned the tank out, just the fuel shutoff screens)

2. How do you safely close off the existing hole in the tank, and reattach the new pingel to its new location?

This would be way more work than it is worth. Once you drilled the holes in the tank, you would have to come up with the threaded inserts and figure out how to get them fastened into the tank so they don't turn or leak. Plus, you would probably have problemms with the screens plugging up all the time because there is always crap in the tank. Yhen you would have to build a plate to go on the original location.

Alrighty then, see thats why I asked first, thanks fellas!

The extra length of tube running to the farther away carb is irrelevant as long as gas is still in the tank.

They are both getting the same amount of fuel flow.

It's a complete waste of time but to answer you question you have to cut your own gasket, and make a plate with 2 holes in it to go over the gasket.

Then just bolt it up over the old one.

I run an aux fuel line from my rear tank to the front tank with a filter and shut-off valve on the bike in my signature. I drilled and tapped the tank itself on the rear center section of the tank, near where the seat holder sits. The tank is actually really thick right here. I just drilled and tapped the plastic itself and used some red gas/oil resistant silicone to seal up the hose barb I threaded in. Let it dry really well. I haven't had any leaks yet. You could easily drill/tap the tank in the same location and install a pingel valve in the center without using the pingle adaptor plate. Just thread the shut-off valve itself directly into the tank. Seal it good and let it dry good before you put any gas in the tank. Cut out a block-off plate to plug the stock pickup location and you'd be good. If you did use this location though, you wouldn't be picking fuel up from the lowest point in the tank.

BigRed,

Do you have any pics of this being done or the completed mod?
