Motor Set-Up Opinions

Looking for some suggestions on motor set-up for my stock shee. Looking for a reliable motor with a stock stroke that runs on pump gas, more low and mid range. I do mostly trail and small pit riding.

Here is what I have in mind, please let me know if I should look at other alternatives/brands:

-Athena 392cc big bore

-Pro Design Cool Head

-Mild port work for low-mid (not sure who will do this yet, suggestions?)

-34 mm carbs (not sure what brand, suggestions?)

-Intake manifolds (do I need these? If so, any suggestions ?)

-V Force 3 reeds

-Reed spacer (do I even need these? If so, what size)

-CR twist throttle

-Pro Design Mega water pump impeller

-Trinity shift cam (is this really necessary?)

-Nology Hot wire & coil (anyone use these before?)

-+ 4 Adjustable timing plate

-Pro Circuit or FMF (which ones, others? I have T5’s but heard they are only good for stock)

- What else am I missing??????

Here is what I already have:

-’06 Shee SE

- Roll Design A-arms

- LSR Rear Axle

- Custom Axis front and rear

- T5’s with boost bottle

- YFZ450 front calipers

Thanks!

So your gonna run a ported 392 for a pit-bike? ehh boy....

okay lets run your list real quick...

dont go with the athena....go with a site sponsor and they will get a feel for what you want and advise you on what to get.....id suggest a 4mill or even a 4mill serval

to run 34mm carbs....yes you will be needing bigger intakes...

reed spacers are a waste unless you need to extend your carbs out a little farther for clearance issues......they're just another spot to leak air

The twist grips are nice....however alot of people have problems with them in trails.....mostly because when you catch whoops or are making turns quads wont lean like dirtbikes...so your wrist is locked when your coming into the turn with the juice applied.....then you can't uncock your wrist quick enough to cut the power before you tree your banshee. its really all just preference....but i don't like it.

avoid most trinity stuff.....there's no reason to purposely give your bike an STD

how about some pod filters to get this thing to breathe a little better

and some jets cause your definatley gonna need to up the jetting alot.

since your gonna be adding power like this......id suggest getting your crank welded and trued. If you get a 4mil more than likely it will come welded....it should state that when you purchase one.....

my suggestion for port work is to send your stuff out to Jeff at F.A.S.T. he's a really great guy (as are all of our sponsors here on the HQ) and does some amazing work. And since your gonna have some down time if your gonna get the port work done....then split your cases and get that crank pin welded and at the same time you can do some trans mods inside....

Serval cyl or stock ported for mx/trail

-Pro Design Cool Head

Good choice but I like the one piece heads better(Chariot}

-Mild port work for low-mid (not sure who will do this yet, suggestions?)

HJR Did my 4 mill hard core mx port and it rips plus plenty of low mid

-34 mm carbs (not sure what brand, suggestions?)

Prob a lil big for low end emphasis but the servals may be able to handle them 28 or 30 tops on a stock cyl lom/mid setup oh yeah and pwk or airstryker

-Intake manifolds (do I need these? If so, any suggestions ?)

Once again chariot makes a nice peice

-V Force 3 reeds

These are for a higher strung bike not ideal for low/mid...Boyysen pro series dual stage is what ya need

-Reed spacer (do I even need these? If so, what size)

prob not needed in this setup

-CR twist throttle

purely up to you but i have heard some horror stories

-Pro Design Mega water pump impeller

mull engineering makes a better one

-Trinity shift cam (is this really necessary?)

trash.....modded shift star, shifter and easy spring kit and it will shift very nice....any site sponser....or you can do it yourself

-Nology Hot wire & coil (anyone use these before?)

looking to get one mysel

-+ 4 Adjustable timing plate

Great bang for your buck.....chariot nice peice and great price

-Pro Circuit or FMF (which ones, others? I have T5’s but heard they are only good for stock)

pro circuit all the way ....but if you go with the serval you may want a diff pipe they are still in the infancy stages and we dont know what is best yet

- What else am I missing??????

Shocks

oversize radiator

bump up compression

ride it like you stole it
